DIY PC Shield Drain Confusion?

I've checked out a number of DIY PC articles. Some connect the shield drain to ground on the IEC end while others connect at the male end. Is there an advantage of one method over the other?
My logic, which I admit could be faulty, goes with the male connection rather than the component end.

From the recipes I've followed, the difference seems to be in the application. You could always make the cable a few inches longer, try one way for a few weeks then do the other end. Take notes then go with the one that sounds best to you.

Just make sure if the cable is meant to be grounded that it is by the conductor & the shield is *extra*.
