Atma-Sphere MP-1 3.3 line stage tube rolling

I've just acquired an MP-3 3.3 line stage that has a lot of the available options.  I've just put it into my system and it sounds excellent along with my MA-60 3.3 driving my Quintessence Stealths.  The tubes I'm currently using are Ken Rads in the back 4 positions and some RCAs in the front two positions.  I've got a number of 6SN7 tubes available in my stash, including Linlai, RCA, tungsram, sylvania, but I'm wondering if members who are fortunate enough to own this fabulous preamp can share their experiences tube rolling.

Thanks!

The tube in the front right location affects the sound of that channel's line stage the most. The Linlai has been pretty good if you have the premium version. I avoid the globe version as the globe itself is resonant.

Of the NOS tube the KenRad seems to get the best regard.

Of the remaining two sockets all the tubes you mentioned would work fine.

As always, with any high performance tube equipment, you have to vet the tubes whether new or used. Its not enough to see the name on the side. The tube should test good on a tube tester and when installed, you have to audition it for microphonics (sensitivity to vibration) and noise.

Thanks, Ralph.  I do have some premium Linlai.  I'll put one in the front right location and see how it sounds.

Th preamp is incredible!

Just started using Psvane Summit in my MP3.and front position of S30.  Big improvement over even some of my better vintage.  On sale factory direct or from Amazon now to boot!

Whoops looks like factory is sold out and sale is over on Amazon.  Get em anyway.  You’ll still be a happy camper.

@car123    Just wanted to congratulate you on your acquisition of the MP-3. I think it is one of THE great preamps out there and goes 90% of the way towards great sound that the MP-1 delivers (this coming from an MP-1 3.3/M60 3.3 owner...me).

I just got in a matched quad of KRad 6SN7s from Andy. So far I have a pair in V1 of the M60s but haven't popped the cover on the MP-1 yet. I've only got maybe 15 hours on them so nothing to report just yet. But a word of caution to those looking to jump on the chinese 6SN7/small signal tube band wagon. I started trying them back when they first started showing up (remember Create Synergy?) and, without exception, have experienced unacceptably short life from them, categorically. The chinese 6AS7 equivalents weren't much better. I've had better luck with 6AS7 pulls bought from Russian ebay sellers than new chinese equivalents. So, at this time, the chinese stuff is a no go for me.

Thanks, Acresverde.  I misspoke in my question but not in my title.  I bought an MP-1 3.3 linestage.  Indeed, it is incredible.  And thanks for the warning on Chinese 6SN7s.  I will certainly keep an eye out, I currently have two Linlai in the MA-1, two in my MA -60 and two Psvane in the MA-60.  I really like how they sound.

I do have a small stash of Sylvania and RCA 6SN7s and a quad of Ken Rad 231, and a variety of other 6SN7s.  I've got a lot of experimentation ahead but currently I'm liking the Chinese tubes and the other combinations I'm currently using.

The system is sounding quite remarkable.

Please feel free to share experiences on different tubes in different locations.  There is not much of this type of info available, at least not that I have found.

Amazing the impact of different tubes, it's quite evident and remarkable in this preamp.   I've stumbled on a wonderful combination, Linlai in front right and back left, Sylvania in middle and back right, and ken rad in middle and back left.  It's smooth, detailed, has great bass, holographic, wonderful soundstage, and provides an immersive experience.  I don't have any desire to change anything for the time being.  I think I'll listen for a while, let everything settle, and if I feel like it roll some singles in and out.
