The molecular level explanation of "cable burn-in"
@classicrockfan Interesting topic. I find that the technical explanation of "observable" phenomena can take the following path(s): Nothing observable happened. Therefore every explanation to validate it is BS. Something did happen. The entire...
Dog pissed on speaker
Lots of practical advice from from seasoned audiophiles.   Urine good hands here.
Stuff You Tried To Love
First generation CD players.  I set the bar in the stratosphere based on all the pre-release specs and technical discussion. They sounded awful.
Dog pissed on speaker
Dogs can hear well above the gentle 20kHz rolloff of the Klipsch horn tweeter.  Perhaps the dog would prefer something with an AMT style tweeter than can dellver well beyond 20kHz.   This is a form of protest IMHO.  I'm wagering that the dog was ...
Handling Heavy Amps
Ancient Astronaut Theorists say that the megaton stones of the great Pyramids, Easter Island and Stonehenge were floated and put place with sound waves. Might be worth checking in to? Probably should put your neighbors on notice before implementi...
For the love of...kits?
@hilde45  40+ years "hacking" audio gear has revealed just how simple, easy, and cheap it is to make (almost) anything sound better.  Sometimes with no more than a hand-held driver with flat/Philips/Torx bit installed -- and a couple of minutes t...
Yamaha NS 5000 w/ NAD M33
A couple of thoughts here: If you are considering the purchase of an M23, that’s roughly a $3k investment. I’ll use that as a "baseline" for additional "financial headroom" in your system. I’ll go along with others who have suggested room treatm...
Are there other people like me ? Amazed by their low cost system :)
I am pretty amazed by how much music can come out of vintage and/or inexpensive gear when you get things out of the way (inside) that make them sound worse. I am also amazed how inexpensive gear can fulfill an intended purpose: musical wallpaper,...
Moving into an apartment with wood joist floors - worried about neighbors hearing
Several things come to mind here: Very good tips on sound isolation/absorption.  Keep in mind that powerful low frequency sound waves are very long and can penetrate feet (yes, FEET) of sound absorption.  But,every bit helps. If you love your Ki...

@deep_333  An exceptional post.
Best Sounding Adapter - Making RCA into Banana or Spade? Thanks!
@vinylfun  Let me take a shot at your questions: Q1: the tape out is a fixed output, meaning that it does not change with volume.  Yes, it could connect to your sub, but it would be rather tedious to adjust the volume on the sub each time you ad...
New In 2024
Lots of good stuff here. @czarivey That's really cool.  And, yes, keep us posted.
Best Sounding Adapter - Making RCA into Banana or Spade? Thanks!
In my car stereo days, we referred to these genercially as "high-to-low-level adapters".  Speaker level in.  Line level out.  Depending on your level of persnicketiness, you can find these at a variety of price ranges. Another consideration here ...
Free air, tighter bass - snake oil or cheap tweaks?
Free air?  Heck yeah!! I'll take all the free stuff I can get.
Clean power and it's affect on sound quality
@bipod72  If you shop around you can find solar batteries with much higher capacity than the originals.  I've found these to have much less blooming in the midrange. I also prefer the sound of older wiring, especially when using fuses vs circuit...
