Speakers that sing
The Piega P10s are going for the low side of your range, or less. I highly recommend that you add these to your list for auditioning. They are tremendous speakers, and an amazing value at $5K or less.
Good Jazz/Vocal Reference CD Recommendations?
Cassandra Wilson, any of them. Great voice, amazing sonics.
Best band of the 80's
I would vote for another Australia band, the Go-Betweens, in a tie with Husker Du as best bands of the 80s.
Do we break in our componets or do our componets ?
Rsbeck,With all due respect, I think you're either missing the point or haven't been around here long enough to recognize that this is an old debate with fairly clearly drawn sides. Although I'm a relative newbie compared to Tom (Twl), Redkiwi, an...
Which artists do you just not get?
Sean,That is a GREAT idea! Sort of an Audiogon "trading post." I can think of at least a dozen CDs/LPs I've bought this year that I would like to trade. I'm all for your idea. It may be worth creating a new thread in case other potential advocates...
Used Morch DP-6 or modified Origin Live Silver?
Damn it, Tom. You tease...Can you give us a hint?
Used Morch DP-6 or modified Origin Live Silver?
Tom,That is hilarious! Are they going to let you keep all that stuff as compensation for "borrowing" your idea? I'm looking forward to your impressions. David may be on to something there.Chris
Preamp Deal of the Century
Hey, Larry--The First Sound is an excellent preamp, no question. I had it in my system for nearly a year and enjoyed every minute of it. I could have lived happily with it, I believe, were it not that I wanted to get back into vinyl, wanted a pre ...
Tom Waits...anyone?

Getting started, need amp recommendation
In this price range, you should seriously consider the ART SLA-1. You can get a new one for about $200 delivered. There was considerable buzz about this amp a few weeks ago on AudioGon, and a few of us took a small gamble and ordered one to try in...
I need a female jazz vocalist. No Krall, No Norah
Uh...Billie Holiday? Also agree with the recommendations of Shirley Horn, Cassandra Wilson, Abbey Lincoln, and Sarah Vaughan.Dinah Washington, Betty Carter, and Dee Dee Bridgewater are three others to add to your search.Happy hunting.
I need more Funk
Need more funk? How about Parliament/Funkadelic? If you are looking for funky jazz, give Ornette Coleman and Prime Time a try.The motherlode, however, is the four CD box set entitled The Funk Box. It is absolutely great.
Your favorite Jazz album - w/in last 5 years
James Carter - 'Chasin' the Gypsy'Carter is my favorite youngish jazz musician. He has incredible chops and his albums are all quite different and wonderful. I like all of them, but especially this tribute to Django Reinhardt. It is beautiful and ...
Have you tried the ART SLA-1 amp yet?
I have spent quite a bit of time listening to the SLA-1 for the past week or so, and have more or less arrived at the following conclusions. First, it is an unbelievable value, and I like the idea of having it in a second system and as a backup am...
Rock Music: 1951-1976 vs. 1977-2003
For me, it is pretty simple. On one side, you have the Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Creedence Clearwater, James Brown, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Neil Young, and many others recording at the height of their artistic powers.Who would like ...
