Vintage vs New
Vintage has inherent issues with things wearing out. Electrolytic Filter caps for example do not last forever and need to be replaced. Contacts, relays, potentiometers, Lpads all oxidize over time and can cause problems. Some woofer surrounds dete...
Best Integrated Amp (for me)
I also recommend the Rogue Audio Sphinx V3 (definitely the V3) with a pair NOS Mullards. Shockingly good sound with the better vintage tubes, and an excellent phono stage to boot. I own one and can attest to just how good it sounds. It’s a no-brai...
Harbeth 30.1, 30.2, XD
I previously owned the SP 2/3R2 Spendors and found them quite special. Their tonality is more presence centric than the new Classic, which tends to favor clarity and detail over a warmer midrange. It’s not that the newer version is bright. Quite t...
Considering an integrated

Harbeth 30.1, 30.2, XD
Piggybacking on Twoleftears’ remark, Harbeth recently hired Terry Miles who had worked at Spendor for decades and was responsible for all their designs over that period of time. I have owned over a dozen Spendor loudspeakers over the years, includ...
Benchmark / Anthem / Rogue
Following up on Stereo5's comment, definitely replace the stock JJ tubes which are okay, with NOS if you can. I did the same thing with my Sphinx V3 (NOS Mullards from Andy at Vintage Tubes), and the improvements were not subtle. It makes a real d...
“Black background” — What really contributes to this phenomenon?
In the digital domain it’s all about inherent noise contaminating the signal. The best designs today take great pains in power supply design to address this, and it not only makes the contrast between quiet and music more distinct, it allows one t...

The Belles Aria Signature Integrated Amplifier
msafrick - As a Rogue Audio Sphinx V3 owner I would like to hear more about the comparison with the original Belles Aria. The V3 is an exceptional integrated with a killer phono stage, IMHO.
Living in Japan. Any opinions on amplifiers?

New Rouge Dragon amplifier
Taylor (GoldPrint) is right. Both the Ref600s and the new Rogue DragoN are excellent amplifiers, pretty much on par with another. Once you get into this territory, differences often become more subtle and subjective.
New Rouge Dragon amplifier
Well, the Rogue DragoN finally arrived and should be broken in by now. Worth the wait, yes. Having had the Bel Canto Ref600M’s for quite a while, those who still doubt what these novel amps are capable of are missing out in my opinion, but I am su...
New Rouge Dragon amplifier
I have the BC Ref 600’s currently driving a pair of Spendor A7’s. I have ordered a Rogue DragoN from Taylor at Goldprint which should be ready after the first of the year, so if any of you remain interested I’ll provide my thoughts on how they com...
Preamp SS to match class D amp
I have been using the Bel Canto E1X controller for about a year now and it does it all, and extremely well at that. DAC, Streamer, phono, two analogue inputs, and most importantly, it sounds superb. I guess I too have the “right” speakers accordin...
High end Class D amps?
"Class-D likes benign 4-6ohm loads with low - phase angles, and that’s what the Maggie’s are, but when the loads get tough, then big Linear Amps come out to play."I agree with George. Class D amps can sound really good with the right speakers as h...
