Onkyo DV-SP1000 or Pioneer DV-59AVi?
I'm sorry for bringing it up by why have you ruled out the denon's? I think you could get a modded denon for that price, that might be better than both.

Preamp/Subwoofer connection question....
If it's good enough for you, the NAD c160 has two pre outs. I have it , and I like it. It can be had in your price range.
Balanced to RCA or Opposite
Sputniks:I recently purchased the dex2496, which is a digital crossover and eq, and I just found it cheaper and simpler to make my own cables. All of the parts can be found at partsexpress.com. Also, I agree with the others about the hook-up issue...
Moving from mid-fi to hi-fi -- Imaging questions
I agree with Newbee. MOST recordings out there are not recorded correctly when it comes to timbre, dynamics, and imaging among other things. I Have 3.5's and deal with this on a regular basis. Lucky for us fellow drummers and maggie lovers, there ...
Nad C160 preamp switching problems
I have a similar problem when I switch to one of the tape loops. I find that if I change to the desired input and turn the pre off and back on after a few seconds, the switch is made. It's kind of a pain, but since I don't realy use tapes anymore ...

Live Marley: Bablyon by bus/live at the roxy....
I have Babylon by Bus. Highs are a little harsh, but not too bad.
Driving Maggie 1.6s?
Over on the maggie users group there are people that would give their right arm for that Bryston. Why the change? If you can keep the Bryston, why not bi-amp with ARC's on top. I understand maggies were voiced with ARC.
Need Inexpensive Crossover
check hsureseach.com . I believe they have an inexpensive high pass filter.
Are DIY, CAT5 cables really that good?
I guess it all depends on your system. They do seem to be a little more amp dependent. I made a bi-wire set and I love 'em. But, like everything else in audio, if it doesn't sound good to you, it ain't good.
Active crossovers and commercial home speakers?
Many people apparently do this with magneplanar speakes. if you go to the Maggie Users Group you can ask them.
Coldplay's "A Rush of Blood to the Head"
I fully concur. It really sucks because I like the band a lot, but it's hard to listen to. "Parachutes" is no better.
"Line source" vs. "point source" speakers.
I have Maggie 3.5's which are line source. They don't totally "remove room reflrctions from the equation", but they do take care of some of it. There are very little vertical reflections from floor and ceiling, which is nice. They do however throw...
