The Genie grants you one wish, you can have any former audio item back...
The phrase is "Youth is wasted on the young" (George Bernard Shaw).  As to paraphrase "If you lined up all of the audiophiles in the world, they would not reach a conclusion". Altec model 19 speakers-were just too big-the size of a washer and dryer!
Lets talk dedicated lines
AC power is a funny bugger and it helps to understand how “noise” gets onto the line. Basically noise are tiny “spikes” imprinted onto the sinusoidal AC wave from various sources. Use of a scope can show this. I have a Flintstone era Tektronix ...
Stereo Receivers from the past...
Sansui 5000X, Harman Kardon 330, Marantz 2230 or 2270 (if you can afford it).  Pioneers are problematic with the protective relay cutting in and out due to undersized power supplies and marginal parts. Not a big fan of Yamaha either.
Help- audiophile husband just dies
Call Brian at Hideaway Music in the Chestnut Hill area of Philadelphia.  He deals in used hi fi equipment and will bevery fair.
What Would You Do with a Sealed, 1st Press Miles Davis "Kind of Blue"?
Columbia CL1355 "Kind of Blue" Miles Davis: What you have is a Columbia "Record Club" version of this famous record.  The record is the same as the standard version but was in a sealed plastic inner sleeve with a tear edge instead of the standard ...
Top vintage receivers vs. modern high-end equipment
Sansui 5000X (circa 1969-70) and Marantz 2270 (circa 1970) are two of my vintage favorites.  Don't get the Sansui 5000 or 5000a just the 5000X.  These models had a lot of problems and recalls.  Most of the early Marantz are good but not the B seri...

A tube is a tube from the simplest diode to the most complex multi element combination tube used in TV's.  Since its first inception in the early 1900's two element diode used to detect radio signals (via Morse code in ships), to the three element...
How much discount typically for a new MC275 to expect from a dealer?
The MC 275 is as nearly bullet proof as you can get.  I would not hesitate buying a clean used one with low hours or trade in from a reputable source or dealer and save some money.  I would try and find a "Gordon Gow" edition since it was of limit...
Why No McIntosh Recommendations?
I do have one complaint about McIntosh equipment and I hope someone at McIntosh is monitoring this post.  Please get rid of the glass front panels and replace with Lexan (plastic).  The black plastic laminate in front panels de-laminate over time ...
Why No McIntosh Recommendations?
I don't understand the McIntosh bashing on this post.  McIntosh is of the highest quality and has the highest resale by far of any high end equipment bar none.  That is why they have been in business since 1948 and will continue in spite of the ch...
