Denon 103R or 304?
The Denon 103 works spectacularly well with an RB300 tonearm. There are many many such users. One of the great synergies out there.
Can I clean my records manually?
Yes you must certainly can. Use a Disc Dr. pad, alcohol solution in a spray bottle and flannel rags to dry. It works very well. Lay the record on one flannel rag spray each side and brush well with the pad and then dry with the flannel rag.
My digital front end outdoes my analog.....
If you have a significant investment in vinyl, both emotionally and financially, you should upgrade your analog set-up. The TT, cartridge and pre is inadequate. I can see why you feel your analog is laggging behind your digital playback.
tuner upgrade expertise needed
Bill Ammons is enormously knowledgeable and a gentleman.
Using a DVD recorder to record radio programs
Sounds interesting? I have used a VHS tape machine to record radio concerts and am delighted with the 6 hrs without interruption. How would you compare the quality using the DVD recorder?
Do you think you need a subwoofer?
Experiment. The bass may appear fragmented or incomplete but it works its auditory illusory magic with considerable authority. Put on a piece that has critcal bass, e.g. Yo Yo Ma Bach Sonatas. Ensure the bass and upper frequencies are balanced. Th...
Cartridge choices under $300
Try low output mc. The SP9II can go down to .3 as long as you're not looking for 100db rock concert levels. For classical and vocals it should be perfect. So try Denon 103-$200? Just wait for the next release of supplies in a couple weeks-check eb...
Front- vs. Down-Firing Subs and Amp Issue
I use a Polk vented dual side firing 12 inch for movies- great for explosions but not for music. Its slow, soft mushy but it can move the couch. For music, an active xover feeding separate bass boxes- dual front firing sealed 10 inch Hale woofers ...
Subwoofers?
I would strongly recommend you cut the low end out of all your speakers except the sw. That's the purpose of the sw.
Best Sarah Brightman CD
Forgive me please but I just can't resist, the best Brightman CD is no CD. Her voice and affectations are just terrible compared to all those others out there. She's a marketing creation like the Monkees.
Subwoofer Question
I've used spikes on speakers including sub's and noted no noticeable difference. The X-30 crossover is great. I use 2 of them on 2 different systems and I don't even use Paradigm speakers. Best most affordable active X-over. Experiment with the X-...
AI L1 sound better than AI M3?
There were updates to both which you can tell only by comparing the dates on the circuit board inside. But I doubt very much that's what your hearing. First the tubes must be upgraded if you want to perfect the sound. Kevin Deal at Upscale Audio h...
Best Live Recordings:Performance and recording
Eva Cassidy Live at Blues Alley is just great. I get that sense of being in the club. Dynamic recording heavy on bass, the room just throbs.
How often do you demagnitize your MC cartridge?
After reviewing the progress of this thread it's obvious that alien abductions must be on the increase, perhaps it correlates to a lousy economy, and so the great need for demagnetizing cartridges.
I need a female jazz vocalist. No Krall, No Norah
