CD Transports
I spent quite some time trying to find a Proof for some of these notions. the most fun part of my activities was posted here. These last few weeks I found another "proof" that not all spinners are born the same: when setting dBpoweramp CD Ripper on...
WHY DO SOME AUDIOPHILES THINK YOU ARE BRAGGING WHEN YOU ARE SHARING?
@calvinj : just give it a rest for a decade or so, and your worries shall fade away... I used to mention/brag about my top-of-the-line Naim Audio "olive series" kit 10+ years ago, nowadays I just do not care if anyone else wants to comment: this i...
Headphone cable, what do you do?
In this same situation (and believing, without ever conducting blind/ABX tests on the matter, that extra connector for an extension cord degrades the sound) I bought 15ft cord from www.stefanaudioart.comWoo Audio 3 with NOS Mullard tubes and Senn ...
“MQA is a philosophy”..John Stuart
I really like the wordplay of "origami unfolding" instead of compression-decompression. My know-it-all kids explained to me that if it is lossy, it cannot be origami, they tried to illustrate this through an analogy with "real" Transformers vs. Ho...
One DAC/integrated you could be happy with forever?
Integrated? Maybe. I am tired of all those boxes. DAC? Dont think so: 1-Bit DAC was once proudly etched onto Discmans as if it were the best, and I believed it. now its R2R, MQA, multibit and whatnot, so No for DAC.  I did settle onto my Last TT: ...
Have transports improved for Redbook CD playback?
For me the answer is simple: VRDS-Neo... The only transport which solves the problem of badly pressed CDs (as described at square-2.com), and this is what I will be getting for myself (with Schiit or Naim DAC) for an upgrade from my present CDS3/W...
CD player cuts out
Check CDRW just to be sure that laser is still strong.  There is a good chance that nothing is wrong with tour CD50: my Naim CDS3 also does not like CDR and sometimes skips on badly pressed CDs, unplayable by Wadia. And my CDS3 gets a new laser me...
CD player cuts out
+1 for checking sled gears and sleds, if you are lucky that's might be it! Forgot to add: before opening anything check how it plays CDR and CDRW first, it may give you a better idea on what is going on.

(((Try not to use alcohol or Windex on any optics you may have in the house, they do attack glue or glass, at least in microscope objectives. Get a bottle of Zeiss lens cleaner off Amazon)))I fix Discmans as a hobby, and in most cases this skippin...
Art Dudley compares CD Players
Well said!!! AD and Mikey are the reason I subscribe to Stereophile nowadays, but if your reference point in digital is sooo outdated, just let it go, not "beg for a review sample" I still (want to) believe that someone else wrote that whole nonse...
Art Dudley compares CD Players
Glad I am not alone!!! I follow AD writings since his Listener days and this is the first time that he made me cringe. I think he warned us from the start: "As I write this <<the 3rd sentence for the article>>, my copy deadline is thre...
Chromecast and external DAC
@kalali you just opened a can of "upgraditis" for me, I do not care much about price, Tidal and CC is just a legit substitute for bittorents to know which CDs/LPs to buy. Now I have to actually look into this new (for me) streaming thing, shoot!!!...
Please , Thank you.Help in choosing a CD or a CD/Universal player
Get Better Sound is a must-have!re CD player, Naim CDX, now downgraded into my bedside headphone system works without a glitch for 20+ years now, and sounds amazing! The price dropped down to next to nothing, and unlike my CDS3 which is now onto i...
Chromecast and external DAC
I followed @willemj advice and for a month now stream "90 days free" Tidal thru Chromecast into Wadia 781i DAC. Sounds very good! Upgraded $5 generic mini-Toslink to WireWorld Supernova-6 glass mini and the sound got "snappier", the way Naim-head ...
Does a streamer do anything to the data that Tidal provides?
@willemj thank you! For now I will keep volume at 100%, to be on the safe side. Strange that Chrome has no mention of this, and when asked at Chromecast chatroom they dismiss or ignore the question.Sorry, I misquoted Wadia, the manual actually say...
