Do you buy new, used or new or used gear?
Probably the very, very best value in audio is a quality used DIY gear.  I have a pair of DIY SEAS Thor loudspeakers I got from a professional cabinet maker who was downsizing his living situation.  For those of you not familiar with the SEAS Thor...
$35000 to $40,000. speakers what would you buy and why?
I wouldnʻt buy any of them.  With that kind of budget, Iʻd pitch out everything I had and drop $16k on a set of the Dutch & Dutch 8c.   Done.
Best bang for the buck
I run a set of Linkwitz Orions, which being multi-amplified, call for 8 channels at 60 wpc.  I paid all of $500 for a 12 channel B&K MOSFET amp back in 2008.  Still running it today.  Sounds great.
Best concert you've attended
@coltrane1  I grew up in San Francisco.  I was 16 years old at the time of The Summer of Love.  I was a very straight kid.  Iʻve never done any kind of drugs.  But I couldnʻt help but be influenced by the whole counter-culture scene.   Keystone ...
Best concert you've attended
Hard to say.  The very first concert I ever went to was Seiji Ozawa conducting the San Francisco Symphony in an all-Stravinsky program of: "LʻHistoire du Soldat" "The Rite of Spring" Pretty good, wouldnʻt you say? I used to spend a lot of time ...
Do you buy gear new, used, both?
Iʻve always tended to go with value.  I want the most sound for my limited audio buck.  I bought my tube preamp and DAC new.  I play all of my digital stuff off of a Linux based miniPC I recently built from new hardware.  My loudspeakers came with...
Vinyl vs Streaming

Do You Regret Selling Your Turntable and Albums ?
The first time I bought a record, Lyndon Johnson was president.  At one point, I had some 1300 albums in the collection.  I pitched out about half of them about 15 years ago because we were living in house that just didnʻt have room for them.  Iʻv...
Suggestions for a tube pre and power amp
@lals Yes.  The MC275 is the amplifier.   One last caution.  Many in this community endlessly pursue perfection, instead of pure enjoyment.  The C22 and MC275 will both be very good and give you excellent enjoyment.  The phono section of the C22 ...
Suggestions for a tube pre and power amp
@lals As with any vintage equipment, you need to have a good service technician you can rely on.  Some sellers are audio shops that first service a piece and will charge a bit more than an individual.  Whatever sale ad your looking at will likely ...
2-Part Help Needed
@devinplombier Ripping his CDs is replacing his CD player.
2-Part Help Needed
I pitched out my CD player years ago.  Instead I ripped all of my CDs to hard drive and now play everything through my computer to a Peachtree DAC.  I have my music data copied to 4 separate disk drives around my house.  You can have thousands of ...
Suggestions for a tube pre and power amp
Pick up a vintage, serviced Mac C22 preamp and 275 power amp.  They will be excellent gear AND they will not only hold their value, they will appreciate in value over time.
Inexpensive Streamer for Office System
Before you go dropping a pile of loot, grab a laptop or other PC, load up Linux.  I like Ubuntu because itʻs the common standard.  All those streamers are just generic PC boxes running Linux with someoneʻs custom front end. Stream through a web b...
Recommendations on a Warm Sounding DAC under $1100.00
You guys with money to burn kill me.  Pick up a used Peachtree DAC iTx off of EBay for about $250 or so.  Spend the rest on concert tickets.
