What is the VERY BEST CD album you've ever heard?
@hipsterjefe Graceland was the first disc I heard as well.  A gradeschool buddy invited me over to show me his dad's new CD player, and that was the only CD they had at that point.   One of my favorites is Pink Floyd's Pulse double disc.  I typic...
what are your top "audio bargins" in your system history?
I search for deals anytime I buy anything, which generally helps me get something twice as good as I can actually afford at that time.  My two favorite finds were completely by accident though.  One was a Dual record player that was in the prop ro...
Do You Tell Others How Much You Have Invested in Your System?
I saw someone saying, "it's a good deal if you think of the cost per note."  My setup is AV, so I justified the cost of a recent upgrade based on how many movies we watch and how much it costs to take a family to the movies.  And it honestly looks...
Isn't it really about quality of recording?
@rumi,  This is exactly why I draw a line regarding how much I'm willing to spend on my system.  I think it is worth purchasing equipment that is one or two levels higher than the typical studio.  No use forking out $50,000 for speakers to reprodu...
A perfect song? What are your choices?
I'm really loving the suggestions here.  Mine is Stevie Ray Vaughn's Little Wing.  I love the lyrics, but Stevie's cover of this is perfect.  I also love Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong doing Summertime. Both of these songs just seem to tra...
Is There A Device For Home Use That Can Measure How Low The Bass In My Speakers Is?
If this is just for curiosity sake, a test tone generator is on many websites including audiocheck as listed above.  Also there are phone apps for SPL, so you can verify the drop in dB, probably not super accurate, but good enough for curiosity.
I don't want to beat a dead horse but I'm bugged.
I'm the opposite.  My system sounds really good to me, the best sound I've acheived to date, so I'm scared to run REW and find out I'm wrong.  I'm also scared to upgrade anything and screw it up.
For all you Bose 901 Haters!
It cracks me up to hear a couple of people bring up Advent speakers in this post.  I had those when I was in grade school, and coincidentally hung them from my ceiling.  Unfortunately, I fed them too much power from a crap stereo and blew the midr...
Feel free to talk me off the ledge
I got lucky and found a set of speakers at a garage sale that blew away anything I had previously heard.  They are Dahlquist M909 towers from the 80s.  I had no idea old speakers could sound that good.  The previous owner's wife wanted them out of...
