new First Watt SIT-4
I look forward to a pair of mono blocks.
Preamp for a GaN-FET amp...
No questions are inherently wrong. We start asking questions wherever we’re at and then we see what proves out. I come from an industrial design background, and in the ideation stages of development we just throw out ideas against the wall, to see...
Preamp for a GaN-FET amp...
The tube preamp/class A recommendations come as a friendly guide to what ultimately will likely be a better sound compo. Sometimes in this hobby we ask the wrong question or believe we need to pursue a path that we don’t. A really good kit is a ve...
Would you choose 1 ou 2 subwoofers for a stereo set?
Always two or more sub woofers.    I have two REL S812s and love the balanced distribution and performance. Tuneful and dynamic.
What's your experience with snooty HiFi salesmen?
Liked Audio Dimensions, Harry was kind and a wealth of knowledge. The old Absolute Sound, who I bought a bunch of equipment from over the years as they patiently supported my regular visiting, learning, and long listens. And now have a really grea...
Zavfino
thyname, I’m really liking the Zavfino Silver Dart OCC Graphene XLR Interconnect I picked up from you recently. Just spotted this thread and all the good conversations. Can only add at this point that to my ears these cables are an impressive valu...
What is the most important cable in your system
Perhaps the primary power cable (Shunyata Alpha v2) that connects to my passive mains power block (Shunyata Denali v2) feeding the whole frontend of my kit from the city mains source. The interconnect cables from my preamp to mono block amplifiers...
At this level of high(er) end audio why not offer balanced connections?
Most of the wires/cables between microphones and recording equipment of your most cherished recordings was done through XLR. Just saying
Record collecting versus hoarding
Dust & Grooves neglected to contact me… their loss. Though I do not live in a tent in my back yard (yet), and I am having fun. So, how many records do I own? Many, my listening room walls are lined with them. And could not care less what other...
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
mijostyn Try to lighten up just a bit and enjoy the illusion, ah?    My point was merely to enjoy listening and enjoy what you have. No excuses there.    I have never heard a HiFi that sounds lifelike. Only brief glimpses of light and occasional...
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
The best cartridge in the world is the one you continually go back to for the music. There is no best. The chain and setup are too complex to make that evaluation.   Our ears and tastes are too varied. Enjoy what you have. Keep listening
MoFi controversy
Perhaps Sony/Philips should be punished (also) for having uttered the phrase “Perfect Sound Forever”? Or not.
MoFi controversy
I have enjoyed Mobile Fidelity MoFi Original Master Recordings since the seventies. It seems criminal and counterproductive in our tiny hobby to financially punish anyone. If you don’t like what they make, don’t buy them. Now it is sad that they c...
One turntable with two arms, or two turntables with one each - which would you prefer?
One tt with two arms is perhaps more economical. One platter, one motor, one motor controller, one footprint, etc. And this scenario also allows for a mono and stereo cartridge, both with precise positioning/tuning. (Single arms with multiple head...
What's the heaviest speaker you've ever owned? What's the tallest?
Classic Audio T-3.4 Field-Coil powered 24" W x 30"D × 48"T, weighing in at 350 lbs. Best sounding, most dynamic loudspeaker I have ever owned by far. It makes me believe that size does matter in some respects. Monkey coffins just won’t do what the...
