Do you buy new, used or new or used gear?
Not only do I normally buy used but I keep my gear for a long time, because I buy good stuff that I like (not a reviewer). My core system is 35+ years old and plenty satisfying and easily takes me away to a nicer place. I just can't listen to any ...
What one change to your room, system, or setup made the biggest improvement?
I have a pair of Maggie planers which were placed in the typical 1/3 room plan. I moved them within 6 feet of my listening position and about 5 feet apart. The improvement in dynamics, especially bass definition and slam, were significant!

What is the best sounding vinyl?
Octave Records from PSAudio. Uniformly great sound and unusually (for an audiophile label) a wide variety of great music. Second place to Chesky records. Mostly classical and jazz but both typically interesting.
Advice needed: Have 2 Power Cables only need 1 - Which is better?
Whichever sounds better to you. Learn to trust your ears. Keep the other one in case your system changes or your taste does.
Vinyl vs Streaming
After years (decades) of resisting, the overall experience of streaming usually wins out. I still recognize the au4al superiority of vinyl but those 20 minute sides and cleaning routines are just ruin8ng the mood. Sorry......
How Many Listeners Here Listen Mostly With Eyes Closed?
At home: Eyes closed, lights off, dog and wife in bed, bourbon in hand. At a live show, it depends on the venue and style. I've been told that it's rude to sleep (I wasn't) and been checked for a pulse (it was there) but it's rough to be grooving ...
Magazine Ethics - TAS
I've been a hobbyist for 40 years and been reading TAS, Stereophile, HiFi News and several now defunct mags. I believe that most, if not almost all, modern equipment is good enough that there are no dogs. With 99% good to great, much of the differ...
Can Qoboz Connect sound better than Qobuz viz Aurender Conductor?
I ve noticed the same on my Eversolo 10.
Components on floor
Do you mean that the hardwood is directly attached to the concrete (ie: glued?)  My components sit on the concrete slab under my house, si the result should be similar. A 10,000# slab is pretty stable so there's no problems with vibration, though ...
What wire to use instead of Romex
Sorry, but I strongly disagree with the use of steel clad cables. You don't want magnetic materials anywhere near a conductor! I used a hand twisted pair of solid  copper (Simple, I stripped the insulation from 10g Romex) and ran an insulated groun...
the gateway product that turned you into an audiophile
Don't laugh, my gateway product was a Soundesign receiver vintage 1972! I loved music, at the time anything Motown and starting on Yes and Chicago. My old close-and-play had served me well, but I had heard Chicago 1 at a friend's house and needed ...
Replace my Auraliti
As far as I am concerned, it is the software as much as the players features that matter. Though there are differences, all of the name brand streamer/players sound excellent. Check out what features you want (i made an excel chart) to compare the...
The Hi Fi Audio Quest: circa late 1950s
First stereo? Around 1965. It was a 'console' set, that is: a plastic carry box the size of a small briefcase that had a turntable and removable speakers. I remember taking the speakers and strapping them to my ears with a belt to get the loudest ...
New DAC, what should I look for?
For features, I would make sure it has: An excellent, linear power supply; I2S input, DSD512 and 32b/768k capability. Balanced and RCA outputs. The DAC chip seems to be either not relevant or critical, depending on who you speak with. At the momen...
