Help me shorten my list...
I have firsthand experience with the Soliloquy 6.2i, Silverline Sonata II's, and two variety's of the Dynaudio Audience line. Dynaudio's like some horsepower to get the most out of them, but they are good speakers, and you should be able to get a ...
cary slp-98L vs bat vk3i
I have not owned the Cary, but have owned a BAT VK 30 and was not at all impressed.
Where are you from this Christmas..
Merry Christmas from St. Louis, MO. My wife went to a late mass, my kids are asleep, and I finally get some time to myself to listen to some Jack Johnson and surf the gon for my future upgrades!
Secondary Speaker
I'd go for something used. If you can find a pair of the original Silverline Sonata's, they would meet all of your criteria. Full range, very efficient, dynamic, performs well with all music types and very appealing looks. Probably can be had for ...
silverline sonata minimum listening distance
I have the Sonata II's. 8 ft would be fine... they are not overpowering. Very good value used, and allow many amp configurations.

Theory about Cary amps and their reviewers
I've not yet owned any Cary gear, but I have talked to Dennis Had on two occassions... he was more than helpful and very personable. I wouldn't hesitate to buy Cary gear.
Speaker Sugestions Wanted $1500 max
Of all of the suggestions made on this thread so far, I would have to agree with the Von Schweikert VR2's. I also like the suggestion of the PSB Goldi's, but I'm not sure if your amp has enough horsepower for them.I think I'd stay away from the So...
Best redbook player for under $1000
From personal experience I would stay far away from the Marantz (very over-rated mass market junk...don't believe the Stereophile reviews). I have the Jolida JD 100 which is a solid value for approx. $600 used... you can use the left-over money fo...
Confusion reigns - tube amp,ss amp, integrated..??
I second Apt_One's advice. Stay away from HT... you will end up spending alot of money for "bells & whistles" that would be better spent on higher quality two channel components. I learned the hard way ($).
Confusion reigns - tube amp,ss amp, integrated..??
I've ditched HT, and spent my money on fewer, higher quality two channel components. You can still run your DVD player thru a high quality 2 channel system and have nice results. With a high quality 2 channel system, you won't have to worry as man...
BAT vk-200 or Krell KSA 80/100
I have a BAT VK 200 driving my Silverline Sonata II's with good success. My only complaint is that it runs a little hot. They are an excellent value for approx. $1250 used.
Folk/Rock choices that are well recorded
IMO, you can't go wrong with Jack Johnson's "On and On". Good music and well recorded.
Changing receiver from Arcam to?
Shriramosu... I have to agree with some of the other posters that you are going to get much better sound from seperates. Another thing to consider is going back to two channel and sink your money into higher quality components. I found surround so...
Would you buy speakers with out first listening ?
SoGood51... I blew through this string pretty quickly, but I thought I heard you say your leaning towards a "big" speaker. I bought my Silverline Sonata II's sight unseen (used @ $2750 delivered) and could not be happier. There is a pair of Sonata...
