Petition: Stop the loudness wars
instead or or along with petitions consider if existing groups can work together. example http://www.turnmeup.org/has been around awhile.
New level of ridiculousness
comes with a video and spelled with an extra "a". must be good. loaded with quantum goodness that.
Best bourbon?
went and tried to preorder some pappy's the other day. Lady laughed out loud. Essentially zero chance. I'm about 50th on the waiting list and she says that something like 47 folks before me have to decline. Got some makers 46 as I noticed it and r...
Vote for Rush for hall of fame
RRHF. bunch of self-aggrandizing clowns.
Surround Speaker Question
i'd consider your movies (assume that is why you have surrounds) and then consider your budget. personally I only have a couple movies with enough content to worry about surrounds and consequently I think I overspent on my rears. YMMV. Mind I have...
Burn in Capacitor phenomena
microphonic caps? new one on me. I have seen i on guitar amp tubes and some pedals but not on discrete components. that aside it seems risky to assume the nature of sound from a cap is linked to the sound of the system they are installed in. Sound...
Need feedback for 6k budget
I'd suggest going inexpensive on the receiver (but do get room correction) and bias money to the fronts. nice if the center matches (may not notice if you dont match, I can tell but forget as soon as the movie starts) and save on the rears. my tho...
Recent equipment you hated, thought overpriced
I'll add one that is kind of back to front. My neighbor put together a system because he liked mine and also had a friend whispering in his ear. Got some scandinavian speakers (dont know what kind but mid price, some rears/center/sub and then cram...
Recent equipment you hated, thought overpriced
Well said Zydo. For me I'm OK with claims that have no scientific backup. Frankly the cost to test would bankrupt many companies (depending on the test of course) and likely not convince anyone. What chaps me is a half arsed scientific sounding ex...
Have you heard or own the Shakti Hallograph
no idea if their stuff works or not but publishing stuff like: "Following a fundamental law known as "the right hand rule", (which describes the interaction of electric and magnetic fields)"does not help their case. thats for their stone things. T...

Anything "Quantum". No comment on if they work or not and the value for money is up to the purchaser but that said I really hate vendors who trot out the quantum tag with some nonsense about how it uses some proprietary quantum process. Sorry bit ...
PC or Mac?
I would suspect that you will be able to get sound quality on either system that is close enough to not be a factor. Perhaps consider other factors like what software you want to playback with (you mentioned jplay) as well as what you want to use ...
Music that everyone else loves but you just don't
Since we're blaspheming, Clapton (great player, boring music), Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd. Keep being told I should like them but cant. Really dont get Floyd. I listen to utube quite a lot (type in "full concert" and a ton of stuff comes up. Tried...
Budget USB cable?
Mrvco: No the dealer knew what cables he was putting in. I controlled the music (looping the same section) and kept my eyes closed lest I catch a glimpse. lacking in scientific method but I was OK with that as I was not even shopping for stuff. He...
Budget USB cable?
I got to be guinea pig for a dealers usb cable experiment and while I could tell the difference between the super cheap and the mid/expensive, I could not tell the difference between the mid and expensive. End of that day I was surprised I could h...
