Pro-ject Debut III Isolation
I have a Debut II and have had success using the Bright Star Isonodes under the stock feet (which are surprisingly terrible). They're kind of a pain to set up with the soft feet on the Debut II (I recommend using a bubble level) but they work well...
Technics 1210/RB-250 vs. stock arm + fluid damper
Alright Tvad, you got me. The fact that I'm going against the audiophile tide to a direct-drive Technics table should be enough of an example to go against the tide of audiophile noise on the tonearm as well. Touché.I feel like most audiophiles wo...
Ortofon 2M series
I suppose my main question is how far above the rest of the 2M series is the Black...all the reviews I've seen so far seem to think that the upgraded stylus puts it in another league.
Denon 103r ????
Hdm, thank you for that wealth of information - a post that informative could never be too long. Looking into the future I'm looking forward to trying out a 103/103-R (my phono stage is MM-only at the moment but I'm planning to upgrade), and even ...
Used Record Stores & Audio Gear in NYC
I second the Other Music, Academy and Kim's recommendations.
Denon 103r ????
How does the 103R compare to an aftermarket mod like the Zu DL-103 (or any of the wood body versions available)? It was rather annoying to read the Stereophile review of the Zu DL-103 and not see it compared to the 103R.
Ortofon Super OM10 or Sumiko Pearl cartridge?
That settles it, I think my next cartridge will be the DL-160. Now I just need to finish my taxes and wait for my rebate to come in.
Ortofon Super OM10 or Sumiko Pearl cartridge?
What about the DL-160 vs. the AT440MLa?
Ortofon Super OM10 or Sumiko Pearl cartridge?
...although given how glowing that Sumiko Pearl review is, I might have to give it another shot - especially since now that I think about it, I might be thinking of the Oyster.
Ortofon Super OM10 or Sumiko Pearl cartridge?
I upgraded to the Grado Black/Green from the Ortofon Super OM10 and have been really happy with it - then again, I'm a complete sucker for the things the Grado does well. I like Sumiko's cartridges but the Oyster just didn't do "it" for me, whatev...
When do you return new vinyl?
DCstep seems pretty dead on, IMHO - although I did buy a slightly warped $30 LP yesterday, and I'm not going to bother returning it. The warp seems to be cosmetic (I can't hear it affecting playback, it just makes my tonearm bob up and down slight...
Classical Record Labels and Recording Engineers...
Count me as a fan of ECM - not only do they have fantastic recordings, but I also love their design sense. It's a shame that they're CD-only now.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
COB - Moyshe McStiff & the Tartan Lancers of the Sacred HeartThis is a wonderful folk album, COB (Clive's Original Band) was lead by Clive Palmer, a founding member of the Incredible String Band who left to travel the world and came back brimm...
High output MC cartridges?
I would love to hear a ZYX Bloom H but I'm afraid it probably won't be the budget this year.
High output MC cartridges?
I also second just browsing through Needledoctor.com - they generally include snippets of reviews or links to sites like Stereophile. The Grado Prestige line is great (I have a Green myself) but they're moving iron carts, not HO MCs - the Reference...
