So many YouTube clips to evaluate sound quality. Why???
If there’s no differences between sound clips, then all sound clips sound the same right? Of course they don’t, and no one is suggesting you’re hearing the same thing as you would live. The people who film on YouTube generally say it’s not the sam...
Does your system sound “better” after being away?
I read somewhere recently that people that don’t like their systems are listening to music they don’t enjoy. I think it’s very easy to try music just to see what the system can do, but that can be music we don’t normally gravitate to. For example ...
Power Cable in White
Puritan Audio definitely still make their classic, classic+, and ultimate cable all in white. I live in the UK, it’s a UK company, so perhaps that’s why I still have all the colour options. Their cables are some of the few with many different leng...
ZEN Mini S vs. Small Green Computer Sonic Transporter i5 music server/Ultra Rendu Streamer
If I’m not mistaken, the Zen Mini Mk3 and Zen Mk3 comes with a HDD, whereas you’ve been talking about SSD with the sonic transporter solution. To get SSD with Innuos you’d need to go to their Zenith range. For longevity I’d prefer SSD so that may ...
Why do we stop listening to new music as we get older?
I found the opposite, I’m 37 and have always been searching for new music, even before streaming I would use YouTube to search. Streaming has made it so much easier that it has increased the genres I listen to with the only back step being I don’t...
Banchmark DAC3B vs. Denafrips Pontus II (12th Aniv.)
Out of curiosity, why is no remote a deal breaker? When I eventually purchase a standalone dac I want it to be a dac only, without any preamp and other extras, including remote, so it’s as simple and ‘pure’ as possible.
Speakers for a unique small room
I would consider the British speaker sound, all non-fatiguing and there will be options new or used in your price range. Those include the Spendor Classic Series (4/5, 3/1, 2/3) and A series (A1) bookshelf models, also Audio Note UK have a bookshe...
Proof of improvements in audio system sound quality....
The opening of this post cracked me up, I’m picturing my wife in audio stores not looking at anything, just patiently waiting to leave. As for a cheap system sounding good, I think that’s very possible, my first system was cheap and I was in love ...
Integrated Amplifier for Bowers & Wilkins 702 S2
I tested both the Michi X3 and Hegel H390 using their internal DACs from a music streamer and settled on the H390. Both are good, but the overall sound of the Hegel was more refined where it made listening more relaxing, the Michi had a slight edg...
Qobuz hell
Interesting how different experiences are for each person, and shows once again one size doesn’t fit all. I’ve had subscriptions to Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal and Qobuz, I’ve still got Qobuz and Spotify, the others have gone. Tidal in the UK cost...
Best sounding low power (under 80watts) Class AB amp?
Naim Supernait 3 gets relentlessly high praise, 80wpc, small normal size and weight, but comes with Naim’s quirks.
Trying to convert my streaming service from Spotify to Qobuz.
Have a look at John Darko’s video on the Audiolab amp with built in PlayFi, he had issues but it seemed the app sends the signal through the device and then to the amp. They’ve had an update which gives you a setting to select that will play the s...
Hegel owners - what speakers are you using
I own the H390 and run it with Spendors, for your music type they’d offer a good few options particularly in the classic range. Otherwise like someone said, Harbeth is another good option.
Rant against the industry with hopes for discussion on positive change
I’m 37, I got my first rig at 26 having previously used computer speakers hooked up to my laptop. I had no idea about hifi, I just knew I wanted better sound and from there it spiralled into the greatest adventure. Unless you first love music, and...
what’s a song cover that you think is better than the original?
Power of love - Celine Dion Nothing else matters - Miley Cyrus and Elton John Someone mentioned the ‘Sound of Silence’ by Disturbed which is great, so another fun one for me, (which was equally mentioned as a great cover by the Animals), would b...
