Queen on American Idol
Velo62, you crack me up. You are correct though. Chris is simply too good and off mainstream to be an American Idol. Among the final four, he's the only one I'd spend money to hear. He'll do great if he can get a more engaging personality.
I think it is time to retire
Tfkaudio raises some good questions. If there are still people out there who go to concerts (the Stones are always sold out) and buy cd's, why retire? Music brings joy and comfort and as long as there's an audience, it's a simple matter for everyo...
do copper, silver & gold cables sound different ?
Actually, silver, copper and gold are all very good conductors though silver is better than copper and copper is better than gold (and gold is better than aluminum, also a very good conductor). I agree with Lkdog that the old stereotypes are not a...
how can a line cord affect frequency response ?
Ultimately, no. But there are lots of theories which are probably individually insufficient to explain it. There's skin effect, where electrons move faster on the surface of the wire than inside it. There's consistency of material (e.g., long vs s...
what is the difference between good and bad music
"Wine, women and song" is an expression that goes well together and, to me, beauty is in the senses of the beholder. Can you really set rules for greatness in any of these categories which are not, in the end, subjective? After all, each is entire...
Queen on American Idol
Huh! Ace is still there, we'll see about next week. Bucky was unfortunate enough to a) not be the best talent and b) be first in the line-up (have you noticed how the firsts end up last?). Let's see what happens next week. Q: Who can do Rod?" A: A...
Queen on American Idol
You're right Bander, Elliot has one of the best voices -- I wish he would sing in different styles to attract a broader following. So far, he's been pretty one dimensional and that's a hard thing to pull off if you don't have Hollywood looks.
Queen on American Idol
Velo, I agree that all will have problems with the range. But it will be a hell of a show while they try! I agree too that Katharine and Chris should go to the finals, but I doubt that they will since Katharine has already been in the bottom three...
Cables, Cables
Do try Audphile1's suggestion and also be sure the jumper is decent -- not the stuff that typically comes with the speaker. A short length of the Home Depot wire should do the trick since you had good experience with it.If it still sounds worse, e...
How to tame...
You might want to talk to a doctor to isolate the cause of the hearing loss. Once you know why it's happening, and there could be lots of reasons other than exposure to noise, you can then address it. Smoking, exposure to solvents, infections, flu...
Audio Debt?
As I said before, why not finance when it makes sense? What's the difference between financing audio equipment or financing a luxury car when all you need is something much less expensive? The reason I bring this up again is that I remembered that...
Audio Debt?
I never have, but you could make a good case for it. If someone will hold onto the equipment for 3-5 years, why not pay for it over 3-5 years, especially if a low interest rate is available? Lots of folks go into debt over cars and they depreciate...
Is anyone willing to entertain the idea
Brucegel, if the one left hand is clapping in the left channel and the one right hand is clapping in the right channel, what would the sweet spot sound like? Hmmm ;-)
One year anniversary -what have I learned?
Nice thread Gammajo. I agree with your every word and you present a fine summary of salient points. It's kind of you to have left out the part about us all being a bit crazy ;-)
Is anyone willing to entertain the idea
I'm more worried about "not remembering right" than I am about "hearing wrong" (Musicslug alluded to that). There are subtle or stark differences in many components and even from one album (cd or vinyl) to another. I hear differences all the time....
