Wifi vs hardwired for streaming
Great post @vicweast !
Wifi vs hardwired for streaming
@vicweast  "Now you have no noise next to your audio device.." Untrue, the FMC (mainly the SFP actually) generates its own noise. Generating this noise in an external FMC is usually better than doing so inside the streamer. I know of Lumin and E...

@vicweast "I’ll say again, "audio grade" is complete nonsense when it comes to networking.  You are overpaying for a lesser solution THAN an "air gap" or galvanic isolation just before the audio input. " There is much more to audio grade than the...
Wifi vs hardwired for streaming
@vicweast  It is simply that a switch installed in exactly the same position as you suggest an FMC should be installed has a similar effect due to the galvanic isolation inherent in the switch circuitry design. All switches are not the same. An ...

@zlone @lanx0003 Good posts.
Wifi vs hardwired for streaming
@vicweast You make some good points (ie points I agree with! ) and some others. "So, NONE of the network upgrades sold to audiophiles -the audio grade routers/switches blah blah expensive cables blah blah matter one tiny "bit". On this I fundame...
Wifi vs hardwired for streaming
@vicweast Re the post in which you namechecked me: spot on, well said. @pcolvin No, analog RFI noise is generated/transmitted/conducted/radiated/whatever as analog noise not converted. To be encoded digitally somehow would imply the data changes ...
Wifi vs hardwired for streaming
As @vicweast says, fiber is inexpensive and noise-free, it’s also slim and easy to route. However, the back conversion from optical to electrical (in the SFP transceiver) generates its own noise, so it’s not exactly ideal to do this inside the str...
Directional wires/cables
@stevencason Agreed. A floating shield is usually totally floating ie. not grounded at either end (just a terminolgy/interpretation thing I guess), and in this case I can’t see why direction of installation would matter. A single-end-grounded ca...
Streamers and software
Just another guy chipping in with a Node to Innuos success story. Loved BluOS for years, had my Node pimped with a linear PSU, sound quality great. Added a Mutec MC3+ which tightened up the timing (better clocking of the bitstream)... ... but the...
Innuos Zen MK3 tips and tricks
@bassbuyer If you look at the rear panel of the Zen Mini Mk3 you will see the DC inlet accepts 9-24v. I have it on good authority that, if everything else were to stay the same, simply turning up the wick to provide a higher DC input voltage will...
Recommendations for LPS for Innuos Pulse Mini
I use the Zen Mini LPSU with mine and it’s excellent. I did manage to find a pre-owned one though, which significantly reduced the cost.
Home network router question
@timothy468 I like your thinking
Home network router question
@emergingsoul @cleeds I prefer hard-wired too but some people don't have the option. Networked audio is one of those unusual areas in which you're really not better off solving a problem at its source; it's better to address noise as close to the...
Home network router question
@erik_squires An optical link is a great way to not only protect your system from lightnings/storms but, depending on where in your network you place it, to also reduce the amount of RFI noise reaching your system. Have you tried one and rueld it ...
