More on the Onzow Zerodust
There's no way the Onzow is ferrous, and like others have been saying, magnetism wouldn't cause anything to stick to the non-magnetic cantilever & stylus anyways. When you see the horror-show "before" pics from rebuilders, all the dark ferrous...
I need help regarding tube phono preamplifiers
I’ve run the VAC Renaissance SE phono stage for 4 years. It’s wonderful. And VERY quiet. But it’s most certainly not "all tube", in that (like the Zesto) it relies on a SUT for MC gain. It has built-in Lundahl LL1931 - which to me sound very fast,...
Law of Accelerated Returns
So we have a proposed performance curve which is very pretty and supports diminishing returns towards the higher end of gear, but what about the PERCEPTION curve? Asymptotes can work in either direction! Say that we have a threshold for "suspensio...
Law of Accelerated Returns
Sure, SOME of it can be due to an increased appreciation of subtleties, cultivated over time in this hobby. But also, we each have completely custom systems with complex electrical, acoustical, and mechanical interactions. This makes for LOTS of p...
Do high end manufacturers need retail outlets?
What PS Audio did is NOT what I would consider consumer friendly. The trade-in gimmick is ridiculous. I'm less interested in them now than I was before. On the high end, I prefer brands that use traditional dealers, and I don't see that changing. ...
Is the DAC the digital equivalent of a cartridge.
@mulveling Are you aware that you are most likely listening to a digital recording thru your vinyl ? 95% of all vinyl pressed after the 90s is digitally recorded first. But good if you are enjoying your sound. I personally moved from a Linn Son...

Sorry, I shouldn't have sounded harsh like that. Just meant to say, I remember seeing this in December. I don't agree with his level of paranoia. And he keeps showing the same Wallytools pics (which ARE great pics) which to me show a shocking lack...
Is the DAC the digital equivalent of a cartridge.
I’ve had two Schiit Yggdrasils and they don’t approach the musical satisfaction of ANY of the dozens of analog combinations I’ve had at home in the last 10 years. I don’t care about how wonderful digital is on paper. The Schiits also break down......

This video has been up since December - and it doesn't really add any new information.
Is the DAC the digital equivalent of a cartridge.
Nobody said RIAA EQ was anything like the number crunching, filtering, and shaping of DACs. This is a weak analogy to begin with - and the idea was that both phono stages and DACs do "signal processing", in a VERY broadly general sense. Which is t...
Ortofon Cadenza Range loading range
When I ran Cadenzas and Kontrapunkts I liked it lower. 75-ish was nice. Even as low as 50 was fine. The Cadenza Red IMO could definitely use a bit of softening, so I'd stick to the range of 50 - 100.
Law of Accelerated Returns
The "law of diminishing returns" is overplayed to death, usually promoted by guys who: have upgraded poorly have a significant system imbalance or underlying issue which precludes high performance put a system together by reviews and "deals" ...
Is the DAC the digital equivalent of a cartridge.
I guess you could say the DAC combines elements of the cartridge (generator) and phono stage (processing and output stage). But yeah, like @edcyn said it may be a fun analogy for a minute, but not really worth further exploration. I run analog o...
Decided to try a SPU cartridge
Awesome! The Ortofon SPUs are definitely on my TODO list. I've already got a few FR arms.
Is the Schiit Magnius up to the task ???
I would put my money on your current single-ended setup being better than inserting an active Schiit component for no good reason. Honestly you’d have to put a gun to my head to get me to insert any Schiit into my analog chain. If you’re concerne...
