two way v. three way speakers
I used to have 3-ways with two 61/2 bass drivers and an identical mid driver. Now, I have a single 51/2 driver in a transmission line speaker with a parallel sub. The first ones were 91db and the current ones are 95db. When I go to my dealers show...
Wall Outlet Oyaide, Furutek, Wattgate, and others
I've used Furutech outlets for a few years. They sound great, I wish they had a better grip. No thoughts of replacing them.
turntable mats: should I use one?
Been using Herbie's for years. Now I use the Moomat.
Hot Tuna
They're on tour right now. They'll be here in Iowa in July. I have 4-5 LPs.
Got an LP cleaner you want to make money on?
To add to Elizabeth's posts, would the customer ask to listen to the difference on the owner's system (looking for improvement)? It could also be a half-day affair, talking-cleaning and such. What is someone's time worth?
Axpona observations
We agree with the AZ/Triode room. It was also one of the best last year too.
Axpona observations
The S3 & S5. Nothing really bad, just nothing special. Not really musical. Not engaging. This is just how my wife and I heard them. Also, I meant German Physiks in my first post.
Axpona observations
Now, now. My wife and I enjoyed ourselves immensely (it was her first show, my second). I agree with the Audio Physic room. Disappointing. However, there so many good rooms, many more than last year. The auction needs tweaking. Part of the problem...
Some Axpona thoughts
I'm with Drubin on all but the Kef LS50. Hollow sound in a room too big for them. The Blades however...nice.
herbie's mat or Funk Firm Achromat
I'm currently comparing my long-standing Herbies mat with a Mooo Mat my wife bought me at AXPONA this weekend. They're different sounding.
One or two subs
Two. I have three and there is bass without excessive boom. Everything blends better with multiple subs.
Do Jumpers make an audible difference?
Once you decide on your jumpers, the connection method that has always sounded best to me is one recommended by Tannoy and Stuart Marcus (Vampire Wire founder). Main to the HF taps, then jump to the LF taps.
Add a second sub or...
I believe you're asking for your stereo system but, I'm going to respond in HT. I just placed a third sub in my HT. I had one in LFE, one (speaker line connected) as part of the center ch (making it full range), and NOW one connected through a Spe...
Audiophile in Chicago .....
Stay the month and come to AXPONA.
the magic of power cords
I started a thread across the street on not getting rid of cables because of Schubert's reason. You just never know when one cable that didn't work before, might be the perfect fit in a different system. Without going into any detail, I will say t...
