CD-R burnout
Here's a link to a ComputerWorld article on the life span of recordable CDs. I don't think it's quite as bad as they say, but it sure isn't encouraging.http://tinyurl.com/7zqezAs for a few of the problems metioned above. Keeping CDRs in cars is as...
musical drummers...who are they ???
Billy Higgins was the most musical drummer I've heard. I've never seen another drummer who could match riffs with other musicians as well as him.
Jazz Meets Symphony recommendations.
"Charlie Parker with Strings"
Any John Hartford fans?
His novelty songs were great, but he was so much more than that. It's hard for me not to have to say that my favorite is Gentle on My Mind. I also love Tall Buildings, a beautiful ballad about losing ones childhood to grow up and work in tall buil...
best external cd burner to convert SHN file
A lot of people like Plextor burners. These days it's a often easier to buy DVD burners, which can also burn CDs.If you want an external drive, I would caution that you buy a recorder that uses USB 2.0, as opposed to 1.1. And that your PC's USB po...
Should a good system sound bad with bad recording?
200 MB for a two hour concert simply must have some audio compression to compromise the music. The most common compression schemes for full WAV files (SHN and FLAC) can sometimes get over 50 per cent reduction in size, but that is generally when t...
Which musician retired too soon?
I'd include Peter Green and Artie Shaw;even though Green has returned recently. And the list of those prematurely "retired"by substance abuse or accidents is WAY too long. A few favorites not mentioned yet are Gram Parsons, Clarence White, Clifford...
Opinions on Straght wire?

Festival Express
Also saw it in the theater. Thought the whole escalating media circus about how music should be free was an interesting thread too. Quite a slice of the times.
RIP Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen
What a shame. He was a real talent. Am surprised he was so young. I mostly know him from several LPs on the Pablo label from the 70s and 80s where he played with many of the greatest elders of jazz. Must have been a real thrill for him.

How can I improve cableTV audio?
If it's not digital cable you might try routing your cable through a HiFi VCR and connecting the audio from that to your stereo. You'd need to use your VCR remote to change channels.
Blue Note Jazz Recordings
Am glad to see that they are releasing new RVG CDs.And they are quite inexpensive too !Most were recorded in his own house in New Jersey.Talk about a career to die for !A couple of classics that I'd highly recommend are"Something Else" - Cannonbal...
Don't care for my Philips 963
Pmotz,I don't know where there are any instructions for modding the Philips, but the basics are to change the one large cap on the power supply board which is where the AC power comes in. My original cap was blue and, according to some posts I fou...
Music with good gospel choir
I highly recommend Fairfield Four's "Standing in the Safety Zone". Especially the song "Roll Jordan Roll" which they sing with the Nashville Bluegrass Band. Great fidelity too.
