1955-2001 Favorite Top Ten Rock Groups
Jazze22, glad to see a Bloomfield/Kooper fan in the group. My last name is Blumfield (pronounced Bloomfield) and it's interesting to see how often somebody I've just introduced myself to will say something like "Didn't you used to play with Paul B...
Hottest Wife or World's Best System??
Gotta disagree with 3Chihuahuas on his explantion of some sort of standard regarding women and beauty. This is a lot more mental and culture-specific than just plain ol' natural evolution. Think of how different the ideal woman was in Reubens time...
Grado Blue vs. Shure M97xE
Thanks for the responses. Harrell, why are you so enthusiastic about the Grado? SDcampbell, yes, you are correct to assume that I don't have the highest resolution system, given the prices of these cartridges.
The Beatles
Some of the confusion about Harrison and Clapton's lead playing may come from the fact that Harrison played on Cream's "Badge" (through a Leslie speaker, so it has a distinct "swirling" sound) under the name of Mister Mysterioso and Clapton played...
John Lennon
John Lennon was no Mother Teresa? Hey, even Mother Teresa was no Mother Teresa. Do a little research and you will find some well-researched, solid criticism of her and her work. I was a big Lennon fan, too, and remember well the shock of his killi...
Soul Recommendations
Somehow no one has mentioned the most successful Motown group ever, right behind the Beatles in sales throughout the '60s -- the Supremes. You Keep Me Hangin' On, Love Child, Baby Love, Stop in the Name of Love -- these are great songs. The secret...
Is this the sound of clipping?
Thanks all for your advice. I did check back with the person who sold them to me, who seemed quite trustworthy. He says the speakers weren't blown. I do know that I have to turn up my amp quite a bit higher to get the same sound level as with my e...
Is this the sound of clipping?
Speakers are probably 10 years old. It really is just the woofers, not the tweeter. I'll try to turn the bass down completely and see. Wouldn't I notice buzzing at virtually all volume levels if the woofers were blown?
Exercise music
Well, Dekay, that helps explain it. The "getting lost" feeling is an interesting one. I agree that the idea of distracting your mind from some of the agony and/or boredom of exercise is attractive. I do find, however, that I like the way an aggres...
Used speakers
I used to have ADS L620s and I would disagree with the suggestion that they would be appropriate for a teenager. They certainly weren't the last word on refinement, but they were a little more toward that end of the scale than the Klipsch/Cerwin V...
Exercise music
Dekay -- What a mind you have! Recommending Funkadelic and Henry Mancini to exercise by! I am stretching my mental abilities to get a wrap around how those two entities can co-exist. But I'll take your word for it. Keep 'em coming!
Best female vocals on CD
I can't understand how everyone has managed to overlook Brittany Spears! Also, have you never heard of Cher? And speaking of extremely talented, single-name singers, who could forget Melanie? ("I Got a Pair of Brand New Rollerskates," "Beautiful P...
Take the audiophile quiz!
Thank you for your comments, Puddles, Murphy_t, and Jeffloistarca.
Recommend CD Player with Volume Control
I think if you check, Carl, you will notice that you spent a fair amount of time in this thread talking about translatability of experiences. Now you have told us that this thread is exclusively the province of discussions about CDs with volume co...
Recommend CD Player with Volume Control
Carl, it was really meant to be a broad statement about the nature of the exchanges. I am sorry if you took it personally. That was not my intent.
