Help with fatiguing sound in my PC system
Is your system too bright? Or is it etchy, grainy? Or both? You're referencing speakers with metallic tweeters, a solid state DAC that is known to be bright (similiar to the Benchmark DAC1), and you're driving your amp directly with one of those ty...
Help with fatiguing sound in my PC system
I went from Monitor Audio (Silver 8's if I remember correctly) to Quad 22l2's. The quad soft dome tweeters helped some, but the the speakesr still had a mid band dip that excentuated the highs so I sold them too. Speakers matter as much as anythin...
Help me build a fine PC sound system
From someone who's owned Steve's product, along with ridiculously expensive cabling and tried a half dozen DACs in the $1k to $3k price range, the RDac is ridiculously good. For $500. And you don't need a converter with a super duper clock upgrade...
Quad 21L vs. 22L2 Sonic differences?
Sorry, as I chimed in already, but if you're running solid state, and for the money, the quads are hard to beat under $1k. Vandersteen keeps coming up often in comparison but I'm not sure they can hold up in the lower registers compared to the 22L...
Quad 21L vs. 22L2 Sonic differences?
I owned a pair of 22L2's for about a year or so. Had them paired with a few different amps, first a musical fidelity a308i integrated, then a sunfire multi-channel, then a musical fidelity A5 and then finally a Rogue Audio Stereo 90 tube amp. Gene...
Power cords, AC line conditioners---preferences?
Can't go wrong with Shunyata. Either the Hydra 2, 4, 6 or 8. I owned a Hydra 2, 4 and now have owned the Hydra 8 for a year and a half. The older models are dropping in price because of Shunyata's continual new lines that seem to come out every fe...
ARCAM rDAC
I picked one up last week. Really surprised by how good the thing sounds for under $500.I've blathered on before about various DACs that I've owned such as Red Wine, MHDT Havana, Tube Audio Design's TADAC and the Empirical Audio Turbo-3 which was ...
Pre/Pro in Computer Setup
Thanks for everyone's input. I ended up selling my newer Rotel and picking up a Classe SSP-300. Definitely does a great job with two channel and not a slouch when compared to the DACs I've owned in the past. I've dropped a lot of coin on cabling, ...
Which purist interconnect??
All of the cables I mentioned were considered "warm" or relaxed cables by what I researched and from my own experience with them. The Cardas and the Fusion have this liquid smooth sound to them with great detail, good low end information and a gen...
Which purist interconnect??
What sound are you shooting for in particular? 3d "holographic" imaging, speed and transparency? Extreme detail? A more balanced "analog"/natural sound?I've owned at one point or another the Golden Reference, Tara Labs The One ISM Onboards, the Fu...
usb dac for hi-end system
Hmmm....I wonder then why Wavelength, Empirical Audio, Ayre, Audio Research, Locus Design and the majority of the market that tailors in some form to music servers or computers decided to implement USB. Their stuff must sound terrible. It gets tiri...
Apple and Privacy issues
Larry_S must work for Apple, Google, or the CIA (when he's not "listening" to audio). Thanks for the info Albert, I wasn't aware of this news till reading your post.
External hard drives and sound quality
Lots of long posts here on this thread... I'm in the middle of testing an external drive again (as I had over a year ago with a Dell laptop). This time, with a macbook. Both times (with the Dell and now the Macbook), the external drive made a diffe...
Best Dac with USB input for $1,000 or less
Sorry, as the others have said, the Digilink III from PS Audio may do the trick too for USB under $1k, but some have reviewed it and compared it to the Benchmark DAC1 (analytical/detailed sound).OK...I'll shut up now...
Best Dac with USB input for $1,000 or less
No_Regrets - what is the rest of your setup like (i.e. solid state amps, etc.?). Are you looking for detail, or to corrale digital and its tendency towards being bright? Do you prefer upsampling? There's too many options to just throw out a genera...
