| What innovative, unconventional cartridge designs can you recommend? @richardbrand The difference in our set-ups is the equalizer. I was using the DS companion piece, and you have the SoulNote. | |
| What innovative, unconventional cartridge designs can you recommend? I had heard before that the DS system supressed surface noise. I'm not talking about noise floor of the system with the cart off the LP. But I found the 003 cart/equalizer to be just as noisy as comparable magnetic carts. In fact, the sound of pop... | |
| What innovative, unconventional cartridge designs can you recommend? @audphile1 I was thinking of the Koetsu Blue Lace. In a whole other league of course. But listening to the DS003 reminded me of another more modest MC, the ZYX Atmos/4D. I got it out and the presentation was similar, smooth + detailed. The DS gav... | |
| What innovative, unconventional cartridge designs can you recommend? Uh, just to return to the subject of the thread for a moment.... I decided to return the DS 003 to The Music Room, for a 5% restocking fee. I loved the staging and dynamics, but felt my (higher end) MCs did a better job of nuance. So I guess I ne... | |
| What innovative, unconventional cartridge designs can you recommend? Right, the RIAA Converter, which goes between the cart and a conventional phono stage. Seems like would repay the investment in my phono stage as opposed to a new one. Would I be able to sell the 003 equalizer I just got, tho? Only to people holdi... | |
| What innovative, unconventional cartridge designs can you recommend? Holbo was out of warranty--I ordered the motor from Bostjan rather than sending the table to Slovenia--I still need to install it--requires soldering on a circuit board with very little room to move. Looking for a tech. I was referring to the Nix... | |
| What innovative, unconventional cartridge designs can you recommend? Just got a DS003 system myself, tho running on the JVC/FR64s while the Holbo is waiting for a motor replacement. I wouldn't call it a game changer myself, but it's pretty sweet--I was afraid it would sound too digital in my all-tube, all-analog s... | |
| Does any Audiogon member have a Holbo air-bearing turntable? An update on siting my Holbo: Still on the dining table, but now sitting on a Yamamoto B-45 cherry board on 3 carbon blocks for feet (a la Audio Tekne). This improved the SQ but don't remember in what way now. | |
| Denon 103r and the SpinStage transimpedance phono preamp I too tried the 103R with the Piccolo Zero current gain stage, and it worked quite well, contrary to expectations. | |
| Does any Audiogon member have a Holbo air-bearing turntable? As I noted up at the top, mine sits on a dining table--Pier 1, as I recall. While footfalls were a problem when I sited the JVC TT81 there, not so with the Holbo. It might sound better on a dedicated rack, but I don't have the space--it does attes... | |
| Does any Audiogon member have a Holbo air-bearing turntable? I got one of those finger lifts on Amazon before the Holbo arrived--$5. Then I never fitted it b/c the cueing is so solid, even tho I always cue by hand with my pivoted arms. Also concerned the weight of the lift would throw off azimuth. | |
| Does any Audiogon member have a Holbo air-bearing turntable? I'm using a piece of cloth to cover it. Dimensions are 16 by 17 by 7 inches high with the cueing lever up (arm lifted). I got mine used, so can't comment on the price. I guess you could put together an ET2 plus table for less, but hardly a turnke... | |
| Does any Audiogon member have a Holbo air-bearing turntable? I've been using a Mk2 for several months now and like it a lot. Very open, airy presentation. Bass is great too. What I didn't expect is how well Koetsus would like it. A 7g effective mass arm handling a Koetsu???? But both my retipped non-plat... | |
| Anyone familiar with Stack Audio Stabiliser and / or their turntable mat? I have an OL Gravity One, which is supposed to be a damping puck--rather than a weight or reflex clamp--similar to the Stack. I trade it between a JVC TT81 w/carbon fiber on top of cork mat and Holbo w/o mat. On both it brings out the nuances. Mig... | |
| Phono Stage - The great analog tragedy The classic phono stages of earlier eras were largely contained in what are now called "full-function" preamps. Before digital nobody needed a standalone line stage, but the low signal levels of vinyl did need the extra gain a line stage provided. |
