CD Player with Volume Control
Do you own a laptop? Try ripping your CDs to hard drive and attenuating in the digital domain with a high quality digital volume control - either in a dac or playback  software such as foobar or jriver.
usb, spdif, or usb to spdif converter
many thanks - actually I do find ripping too complex and cumbersome - the only reason I am doing it is because the computer sounds so much better than the sony br player -  curious - what is the other (complex) alternative?
usb, spdif, or usb to spdif converter
Thank you. After reading the last 2 posts my gut tells me that my computer is a better transport than the sony BR player. Also I am playing rips from the computer's hard drive so that may partially explain the difference.  I power the idsd dac fro...
usb, spdif, or usb to spdif converter
Many thanks and hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I am running a windows 7 desktop computer (a 12 year old gateway) usb output to an idsd micro dac for both music and blu ray movies.  I would rather use a stand alone player.  However, wh...
older CD transport vs newer ones.
my cd rips played from my computer's hard drive sound better than the cds played from the transports.Sorry that's impossible if the same transport and CD!!!! was used to do the copy with, and both were using the same dac, and exactly the same digi...
older CD transport vs newer ones.
I tried several transports connected to my dac, including a friend's mega $ transport  (can't remember the make/model). I agree with sns: my cd rips played from my computer's hard drive sound better than the cds played from the transports.
amplifier with volume control
Many thanks. I'm going to try an amp with the volume control built in (my tech has an amp for sale with this).  This is a passive configuration and I would hope that, all things being equal, that having the attenuator built into the amp would be a...
amplifier with volume control
many thanks to all.  I appreciate the advice regarding an active preamp, but for now I have decided to eliminate the active preamp - I have tried several and have found a direct connection better - but that does not mean I will not try one in the ...
Eminent Technology LFT8B’s reversing woofer polarity
My tech disconnected the tweeters and placed the speakers with the tweeters facing the outside - they sound and image much better.
Economical full-range floor-standing speaker options?
Along the lines of Fritz, Salk and Tekton in terms of value, you may want to check out Bache audio from Brooklyn.
tower placement
thanks Erik but sorry  -  I meant the desktop computer tower - not the speakers -
PSB - Stratus Gold(i) vs Totem Acoustic - Sky towers
Thanks. Are you familiar with my speakers - the eminent technology LFT8bs?  If  do purchase these I hope they are an improvement over those. I was also considering perhaps speakers such as Salk or Fritz.  Since I would be purchasing them without h...
PSB - Stratus Gold(i) vs Totem Acoustic - Sky towers
If you don't mind me jumping in here, I am the owner of Eminent Technology LFT8bs.  Great speaker but they are incompatible with my quicksilver M60 amps.  My tech whose opinion I greatly respect swears by the Golds and told me to seek out a pair a...
change amps or speakers
Yes Mike mentioned Klipsch right off the bat.  Are any of you familiar with the various models?
change amps or speakers
I'm back - was going to go the preamp route but I spoke with Mike at QS and he said the older M60s are a complete no go with the ETs - they are way to inefficient. He said doesn't matter whether the speakers are 8 or 4 ohms with the M60s, but to l...
