Belles 250i
I can vouch for the sound being very musical. I had the original version, one of the first 250 amps built and my friend bought it from me on the spot when I took it over to his system. We put it up against an Ayre(very good but not with a passive ...
Tubes v. SS: can you mix and match?
Everyone is going to kill me but I believe that tubes can create tone that no solidstate device can achive ever!. Likewise, solidstate can do some things better than tubes. It's a tradeoff. I am totally into the tube sound if the equipment in ques...
Bi-amped vs. bridged to mono
Seperate channels for each driver is allways best as long as the bass amp channel has enough power-if not then bridge the channels and go mono. Do veritcle bi-amp by using one amp per channel (total channel seperation and a power supply that has t...
Advice for newbie on Tube gear
"I'm seriously thinking of getting into tubes" "I'd appreciate ANY advise on what I'm letting myself in for" Sounds like a general question on tubes to me?? Mabe my response should be go ahead and buy this stuff- you might like it, you might not b...
Advice for newbie on Tube gear
First, you need to know that there are two completly different worlds in the tube universe. Single ended and Push pull. They are so different that you would never believe it unless you heard it for yourself! I do not want to give my strong oppinio...
Do I want a preamp?
You absolutely want a preamp if your budget allows for at least $4.000. for the pre alone. That's what it will take to better a CD direct or with a passive volume control. Anything less and it would be better to buy a better cd player and go direc...
I'm depressed, my system hurts my ears. Please help
The creek is the problem and the solution. My buddy did a very similar thing and switched to the creek passive and seperate amp from an integrated amp. The extra resolution made his system sound bright and very hard on the ears. It is not the cree...
2003 CES Show Report from Father & Son Audio
The Audio Magic Stealth Kukama is a DAC not a power conditioner and there is a review on the six moons web site. Great pics, thanks a lot.
MERLIN TSM-M and surround speakers?
Do the cheaper Dynaudio's- around $800 I think. I have the VSM's and my budy had a pair of the Dynaudio speakers, I think this would be the best cheap way to go without putting bad speakers in the back.
Alternative to Avantgarde Uno?
I agree with the lowther type speakers mentioned above. You can do something like the Big Fun Horn from Lowther America for way less than the Avantguard's even at used prices. And you will actually never consider front loaded horn speakers(ORISIS ...
Which DAC will match Oracle 2000 CD transport

B&W N800 vs Wilson WP7 vs Revel and others
Your list looks alot like mine a year ago. At this level, the list doesn't get too long anyways but you should not confuse B&W and Revel with Wilson,JM Lab and Sonus Faber. The latter being levels better in sonics and build quality. No list is...
Virtually lost, a minimalist cries out for "help."
Wow! I went through the exact same thing! All most made me go back to records. I looked at everything from Wadia to Audiomeca to Electrocompaniet to 47Labs to Accuphase and on and on. I also will not go ballanced. So I decided to buy a Mark Levins...
Vandersteen 2c vs Mirage M1
The Vandersteens are levels above Mirage in build quality, sound and value. Stick with them and don't look back.
Speakers that have holographic imaging on vocals..
You will not beat Merlin-just look at the reviews at audioreview-they can't all be wrong!
