Multiple DVD Players
sony makes dvd changers which play as many as 400 dvds (you can find 'em for less that $200 on ebay)--all the other mass market manufacturers (pioneer, onlyo, etc.) have changers that will play 5-6 discs, also available really cheaply.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
@puptent interesting list...thanks for posting
HT Receivers Compared
i just auditioned a bunch of avrs to replace my ancient (but good-sounding) pioneer elite. my thoughts at large: 1. i didn't hear a ton of difference between mid-priced ($1k) yamaha, denon, onkyo and sony ( i didn't try marantz)--they all had a t...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
i hadn't listened to moon martin for a long while, so i cranked up his greatest hits last night. reminds me a lot of steve miller--sorta generic, w/throwaway lyrics, but a knack for the big pop hook--a lot of these songs stay embedded in your cran...
Jeff Beck, Blues De Luxe
@bdp24 i agree with you on the greatness of steve marriott, who may be the best rock voice of the 60s/early 70s, but he was very obviously (if adeptly) aping his black influences. stewart, otoh, never struck me as especially derivative--if nothing...
Jeff Beck, Blues De Luxe
Bdp24, I'm surprised to hear you say that about rs...granted he's a sellout and, by most accounts, a true douche, but he was a great singer back in the day....
2nd system for office, all-in-one integrated suggestions
i've heard the cambridge evo and it's good....nad c368 is another option for an all-in-one unit--it has a phono stage and a streaming module.
As A Youngster, What Unit Puqued Your Interest In All This?
when i was young and stupid(er) i ran nice speakers with crappy mass market receivers. at some point i started wising up and got a nad 3155 integrated--not a great piece by today's standards, but much better than the junk i'd used previously. it w...
Does it make sense to "ignore low ball offers"?
the way i sees it, audiogon is (or at least used to be) a bastion of higher-minded gentlemen/gentlewomen who are supposed to follow a certain unwritten code. making stupid offers (or listing gear at outrageous prices) is a breach of the code which...
Best 2 channel music quality on a 5.1 home theater AVR
@tksteingraber i had a similar experience--for two channel music, my 15-year old pioneer elite avr is an overacheiver which trumped the denon, integra, etc. i’ve cycled through. its only downside is that it doesn’t have hdmi arc function, so my wi...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
jacobites, robespierre's velvet basement--hadn't listened to this in a long while, but it's something of a classic, with that shambolic loose feel you can't fake graham parker, another gray area--he's a surly guy who screwed himself commercially ...
Need advice on what to purchase to hold 1TB of music and connect to my new Innuos Pulsar.
i learned the hard way not to cheap out on a hard drive when i lost almost 2tb of hi-quality files stored on a generic ssd. my tech guy said to use only samsung and that even the better known wd and sandisk drives are prone to failure.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
love tractor, this ain't no outer space ship--i remember them mostly as a sort of ambient guitar instrumental band, but this one is more songful than you'd expect swimming pool q's, s/t--another athens band; glossier and more new-wavy than my usu...
Best 2 channel music quality on a 5.1 home theater AVR
i agree with carlsbad--i'd keep your onkyo (which is just fine  for movies) and add a two-channel amp for your fronts--i like parasound or acurus, but there's lots of choices. buy used and you can spend the savings on upgrading your speakers.
Time to upgrade AV Receiver
+1 soix. i've owned both anthem and arcam, as well as numerous mass market avrs and anthem sounds the most hi-fi of the bunch (although tbh some of the current denon and yamaha stuff sounds pretty good to my ears)
