Best 3A5 / DCC90 / CV808 tubes?
It's meant for a high frequency oscillator use, at frequencies up to 40MHz, according to the data sheet.  Jason, I don't know what made you think it had to be a pentode, with the designation 3A5.  Not that it couldn't be, but why did you think it ...
Use of a splint when changing cantilever and stylus
I agree that it seems a bad idea to use the brass insert.  It is also interesting that most customers of the anonymous retipper are nevertheless happy with the results, or so we are told.  That's a conundrum or testimony to the value of subjective...

I guess I am a bad person for daring to mention the Nagaoka. I did so only because it occurred to me that the US prices are close to the same. Meantime I did introduce the ART7 to this discussion. If the output is too low, one might search for an ...
Use of a splint when changing cantilever and stylus
A setup for infection. (ID sub specialist here). what do other retippers do when they install a cantilever cum stylus?
Use of a splint when changing cantilever and stylus
So the idea is he aligns the old and new cantilevers end to end then bridges the joint with a brass splint, in the sense of a splint used to promote healing of a broken bone? Why brass when one could use a rod made of some typical cantilever metal...

I don’t recognize any of those alphanumeric codes. What is it? Is it a 2A3 with an oddball filament?

Viridian, that $500-$600 price is doable if you buy from Japan, and that’s about what I paid for mine a year ago in Tokyo. I was assuming that most would buy in the US where I think the price is more like $ 900, within shouting distance of the ART...

If the phono stage has sufficient gain, I would dare say the ART7 even at $1090 is a good bargain, if one is looking for a LOMC cartridge. And it's likely to outperform the OC9 variants. The price is about the same as that of a Nagaoka MP500 (high...

When you guys recommend ART9, which one are you talking about, the original ART9, the 9Xi, or the 9Xa?  Because if it is the original ART9, assuming one can still find it NOS, then let me put in a plug for the ART7, the low output (0.12mV) version...
recommendation for phono pre amp and mc cartridge, around 1000$ each
Effective mass is a quantity based on the distribution of the mass of the tonearm, from pivot to headshell.  The closer to the headshell you add mass, the greater the effect to increase effective mass.  So the most efficient place to add mass if y...
Sota Sapphire and Isolation?
Thank you, Mike and Larry.
Turntable prices. Is my mind going?
OK.
Turntable prices. Is my mind going?
Mahgister, Perhaps I misunderstand you but your agenda seems to be that one can make cheap gear sound as good as or better than very expensive gear, if one is possessed of a certain wisdom regarding room acoustics and other more superficial tweaks...
Turntable prices. Is my mind going?
At least you admit that you "don't know". That's a good place to start, rather than to think that if it's cheaper, it must be as good or better. as some do.  There's a great line from the movie "A Thousand Clowns", which came out in the early 60s ...
Sota Sapphire and Isolation?
Soix, you do want the SOTA on a solid support, which is the road bed in my analogy. Perhaps think of a spring suspension that bounces at 2 cps. Now mount it on a spring suspended shelf that bounces at any different frequency. Can you see that the ...
