SUT - electrical theory and practical experience
Holmz, please read my long post and Larry’s too, near the top of this thread. Of course transformers transform both voltage and current in direct proportion. The product of volts X current on the primary equals the product of volts X current on th...
SUT - electrical theory and practical experience
Which is to say a good SUT is preferable to a mediocre SUT, on the assumption that built in SUTs are mediocre. But what about Allnic and a few others with very high quality built in SUTs? The advantages there include fewer connectors and ICs.
Simplest Linear PSU?
Although I definitely do not agree that SMD are categorically to be avoided at all costs, nevertheless it occurred to me that for those obsessed with avoiding SMDs, I would go along with a recommendation I think made by someone else to look on Eba...
Simplest Linear PSU?
Charles, like Mijo, I’ve never had occasion to shop outboard power supplies of any type.

"euphonic coloration".  Which is to say you believe SUTs introduce a coloration.  Which is one subject of that eternal debate I mentioned. I personally have never owned a SUT.
Simplest Linear PSU?
I think the reason many people report audible benefits from LPSs vs SMPSs is that they have upgraded from a wall wart quality (i.e., low quality) SMPS to a high quality LPS designed for audio. David Berning has been implementing SMPS power supplie...

Like Eric says, a transformer is a device that transforms the voltage to current ratio of a power source, in either direction, where Power, which is a product of voltage times current, is a constant. So when V goes up, current (I) must go down in ...
Source for resistors for an acoustech/sutherland phono preamp
Nude Vishays took over from the ones that are potted. These days Texas Instruments is the US source for what look like nude Vishay, series TX2575, at about $12 each. Caddock TF020 from M Percy sound just as good for more like $5 each, but the form...
System that sounds so real it is easy to mistaken it is not live
As a 25 year user of an Atmasphere OTL, I can tell you that with these amps  a failing tube signals its demise rather gently. But keeping them in open air for ventilation and in plain sight is a good idea.
Simplest Linear PSU?
Where are your data that show “most audiophiles prefer simple circuits”? Most have no clue regarding circuit design. In certain applications, SMD have some advantages, such as reducing stray inductance and capacitance that can arise because of lon...
Cartridges
I just spent two days at the Capital Audiofest.  On each of those days I spent 1-2 hours looking at and buying LPs.  I ended up with about 20 new purchases (some brand new, some used).  What struck me most was the astronomical prices for good used...
What a difference a setting makes.
But I will wager that values above 200 were in any case better sounding than the original 100 ohms load.  Or at least the flaws  in SQ would be of a different nature, compared to 100 ohms.
Cartridges
What cartridge have you got and what cartridge are you thinking about? Premium quality records are always to be sought but in neither case ( cartridge or LP) does cost necessarily correlate with performance. I am not a believer in hot stampers, so...
What a difference a setting makes.
For every cartridge, dependent upon its internal resistance and inductance, there is a "critical" load resistance, below which (in terms of the ohmic value of the load resistor) its output starts to roll off noticeably and there can be a gradual l...
Tonearm Parallel?
FWIW, I always start with top of headshell parallel to platter surface and if necessary adjust up or down in tiny increments (<2mm typically) if need is perceived. And yes you can do this by ear.
