Jimmy Fallon has a Mcintosh turntable
So although I detect a little cynicism here about Fallon's choice, it's still cool that vinyl continues to gain attention in the popular culture--if for no other reason that it makes the market for software greater and that should translate to mor...
Spindle Holes
Yes, but the $50 one will add pace, soundstage depth, and the kind of tonal purity that result in that elusive "OMG" moment.  You can even send it out to be cryogenically treated so the molecular structure of the bit are aligned more precisely.  Y...
Sound Quality of Direct TV audio
You mention you put the analyzer on the audio outputs of the DirecTV, which implies analog type outputs. That being the case, I wonder if the digital stream, either via HDMI, Toslink Optical or SP/DIF are carrying a full spectrum signal. Any chanc...

The missing piece
Probably a tie between the Avid Volvere and the Vandersteen 5s. One expects an audible difference with speakers (voicing, room interaction) so maybe that's a bit of ringer. The Avid was a huge leap forward in analog for me.
Which NAD amp??
Used a 214 for a number of years pushing B&W and Magnepan speakers and always thought it sounded terrific. A bit light on power for the Maggies (1.6s) but then I also had a Vandersteen sub so was not consuming amp power for bass below about 50...
Do you Bi-Wire, if you can?
Yes. I have Vandersten 5s which are equipped for biwire. Richard Vandersteen is very deliberate about his design and backs it up with rational explanations. I have spoken with him and find him to be a man of both integrity and common sense, so I'v...
Need recommendations.. Solo acoustic guitar CDs
Ralph Towner, Bill Frisell and Ottmar Liebert. I second the suggestion of the Jackson Browne Solo Acoustic albums 1 & 2, as well as Bruce Cockburn's Speechless and pretty much anything by Leo Kottke. They are all different styles.
Counterfeit Audioquest Cables
"Do they have a responsibility to do anything? I would think so, in order to protect their reputation." I was involved with a clothing company that had a valuable trademark and they took counterfeiting very seriously. . .but not only for reputatio...
Turntable sibilance
"Kj...vtf maybe...antiskate...no way."I agree if indeed it's truly a sibilance issue--and really meant to suggest that what sounds like sibilance might also be some distortion from mistracking. The challenge we all have is diagnosis based on descr...
Has anyone noticed...
Meridian speakers have definitely gained a foothold in Hollywood. Have seem them numerous times. Two movies that come to mind are "Get Him to the Greek" and "Couples Retreat" but I know they've been in others. Pretty easy to spot. And the new HR Bl...
Turntable sibilance
Beyond VTA, there are two things that would manifest as sibilance (not having heard the actual rig of course):Mistracking from either VTF or anti-skate set incorrectly. Since you've tried VTF, then it could be anti-skate (although I doubt it). Try...

Marantz SA-11S1 Drawer Will Not Open Properly
I don't know this machine specifically but it sounds to me as though a worn, broken belt or a gear that has slipped of its axle. Hope it turns out to be something that simple.
