Review: Marantz SA11-S2 vs. Marants Black Pearl SA-KI
Agree. Terrific unit. The SA11 transport was the transport of my dreams. Marrantz really hit a home run with this one. I don't see the Pearl transport anywhere in the same class. Like you, I've had it with DACs and high priced players and decided ...
Marantz Black Pearl SACD vs. SA11S2 SACD?
I looked at the Marantz website, and there is quite a bit of information on the two Pearl pieces. Stereophile's review indicated this unit is comparable to units costing up to 3 times more. For the reviewer to make that kind of statement makes me ...
looking for a DAC that will add some bottom end
The bass is incredible on the Cullen. Not only is it deep and strong, but it also does exactly what Shazam above says. It articulates the bass, opening it up and resolving all the resonance, the wood sounds of the doublebass or the drums. Not a th...
PS Audio DLIII Cullen Mod IV versus Benchmark DAC1
I'm surprised that there is not more buzz about this unit. It is so outstanding, it makes everything else sound like details are missing, bass is weak, and the sound is dead and grey-sounding.I have the Stage IV, but I don't use the Nextgen rca ou...
PS Audio DLIII Cullen Mod IV versus Benchmark DAC1
The Cullen PS stomps all over the Benchmark. The Benchmark has a treadbare, cold sound with bass that is lacking in weight and extension. The Cullen has no competition at its price point that I know of.
break-in for Marantz SA-7S1
Mrtennis, what specific Marantz players have you direct experience with. I find your comment that they have "nasties" completely baseless and wrong. I have an SA-11S2, and it has no nasties, is not overly forward and definitely not bright. It nego...
Buying used old cables
My understanding is that unless there is an airtight seal where the wire goes into the connector, air will slowly get under the dielectric and oxidize the copper. To what degree, I'm not sure.As far as I know, not many manufacturers address this i...
Bi-wired vs Single Termination
I don't think using the jumper will give you the same results as a single or double biwire will. The biwire Mont Blanc should be sufficient for the 804's, which don't have large enough woofers to need the bigger gauge of Volcano. You could have the...
Best Preamp = No Preamp?
I agree with the preamp believers. I used the Benchmark direct with several power amps, and it sounded weak, compressed, flattened imaging...not good. The Bel Canto DAC3 has much more drive and bass and dynamics than the Benchmark when run direct. ...
Help Do I have fake van den Hul Mainsstreams?
From your feedback, I gather you bought them from Audiohobby, correct? If so, yes they are fakes, frauds from China or Korea. He sold hundreds of these on the internet. If the jackets are a urine yellow with a greenish cast, and smell like cheap P...
Pass Labs XA- ".5" ???
Driving VSA jr's, said to be 88 db, the meter would swing to 2 or 3 pm on quite loud levels of big band jazz. And it would regularly swing to 1 pm at "regular" loud levels.Pass Labs told me the amp could handle much more than what I described, wit...
Pass Labs XA- ".5" ???
Tbooe, you can't be serious that you haven't seen the meter move on Pass amps. On your XA amp, that series the meter should never move. But on the X series, the meter moves on my 250.5 when I play above anything approaching high medium volume leve...
Aesthetix Calypso compatible with Pass amps?
I've used this very combination, and there is no impedance mismatch if run in balanced. I totally disagree with Ben954. The Calypso is not dark in any respect at all. If anything, it can be a bit brightly lit in the top end with this amp. The Pass...
Why Palladium in cables, wiring, etc. . .?
Tbg, I never made the argument that wire is wire. I question using a resistive metal. I should be free to post my thoughts just as you are yours, so your challenging why I posted this is out of line. Zaikesman, it is true that carbon fiber is high...
Why Palladium in cables, wiring, etc. . .?
Man, this thread is way off in left field. Let's get back to the basics. Palladium is over 6 times more resistive than copper or silver. It makes no sense whatsoever to use it in audio cables except for the following reasons: (1) greed; (2) market...
