What do you mean you “heard” the turntable
last_lemming: "I think maybe you didn’t read the original post. Nobody questions that one can hear differences. We are questioning how one can say they hear a new component in a new system and in a new room and contribute the qualities they are he...
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning
Thanks for that update, Terry.  I use an Elmasonic myself - v. nice machine. Can you do dual-frequency?  If so, a similar test at ~38kHz would be equally as interesting and perhaps more profound.  45°+ is quite warm.
Vinyl heresy-overhang induced distortion is not that important
I've mounted cartridges with alignment done via different tools over the years: dbSystems, WallyTractor, Feickert, UNI-Protractor (best I've used.)  One goal is to get the stylus tip on the null-point(s), another goal is get the cantilever properl...
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning
Hi Terry - If you meant that my statement about trying to cause damage intentionally did not pan out in this instance, I have no problem being 'inaccurate' about that. :-).  I had not tried to damage a record in the way you described and was specu...
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning
Thanks, slaw.  I think I agree with your above post. From my perspective, concerns about LP resilence in the face of cavitation bubbles generated at various frequencies is thus far groundless.  That doesn't mean the topic should not be discussed.Bu...
is ok to use wifes new make up brush to clean styius needle
I use a v small artist brush and a magnifier: Joe Miller Signature Series 50/50, Round, Size 00 JMSR-2-0Half sable, half nylon, fine stiff tipAn efficient way to keep a stylus clean is to play clean records.
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning
It may be that our understanding of cleaning vinyl via ultrasonics is in its infancy.  That means there is probably a lot of misunderstanding about what combination of variables yield optimal efficiency.  Vinyl "safety", if you will, is part of op...
Colibri or Hummingbird?
Dear @rauliruegas,Of course adapters are best avoided - everyone knows that. The OP is trying to resolve a hum problem with a tonearm and preamp that apparently require their use, at least in the short term. Thread responders seemed to localize one...
Colibri or Hummingbird?
It is not that unusual to find RCA<->XLR adapters wired incorrectly, even name brands such as Cardas.  I use ones from Atma-Sphere.
Turntable setup in Chicagoland area

Technics 1200 Critic Fremer Praises the newer 1200G
In practice the SL1200G is the most speed stable turntable in production right now. This is not true. What is the SL1200G's peak deviation from perfect 33-1/3rpm as actually measured at the platter - not a crystal oscillator spec, not with a test r...
Audio Desk Ultrasonic Record Cleaner Onwers?
I encourage ADS (or KLA) users to spend $15 on a TDS (total dissolved solids) meter and check the machine’s solution before and after each cleaning session. The solution on the record when the fan starts will evaporate, but whatever solids are in ...
Fuuga vs Miyajima
The Fuuga is a top-notch cartridge.  Excellent dynamics and articulation, tonal depth, spatial characteristics, and motivity.  I run it on a Kuzma 4Point.
Where is the significant point of diminishing returns on hi-end turntable?
Where is the significant point of diminishing returns on hi-end turntable? From my experience the significant point of diminishing returns on a hi-end ’table begins after attaining a consistently high degree of speed accuracy. Necessary condition...
Time to choose: Baerwald, Lofgren, Stevenson ?
http://www.analogplanet.com/content/uni-din-versus-l%C3%B6fgren-b-just-clarifyA discussion from Fremer (w/ Wally M in the background) that shows choosing an alignment is partly a function of which position on the record yields more and less distor...
