If this is your first tube amp, regardless of the brand you purchase:1. Buy something that is reliable;2. Has long tube life;3. Is easy to use (has built in meter or auto-bias);4. Has good resale;5. Has good manufacturer service.

One quick and easy thing to check is tightening all of the bolts holding the speaker units in the speaker cabinet. Even if it does not solve your problem, the bolts work loose over time and should be checked every year or two and may have loosened...

Simon, I would do exactly as recommended by Atmasphere. Mine had to be shipped and this is probably where they went. It took a while for them to break in after having the surrounds replaced, then they sounded as I remembered them.
