Electrical question
I monitor voltage 24/7, 120-121 constant, 1200 watt microwave 116v, microwave and toaster oven together 112v.  Measured at the wall outlet the equipment is plugged into?  Correct? VD is directly proportional to the size of the current carrying...
What wire to use instead of Romex
Because of HOA rules/regs, I cannot use Romex. Wires in the garage must be inside conduit. That also may be the AHJ (Authority having Jurisdiction) electrical code in your area as well. In Chicago IL only EMT conduit is allowed in residential h...
Electrical question
Here is a great example of how a split phase secondary winding of a utility power single phase 240V/120v transformer works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVamt9IdQd8 Note: Only the unbalanced load of one Hot leg, Line, through a load(s) to neu...
Electrical question
Correction:   Post on 08-07-2025 at 06:29pm FWIW our over the range microwave/ hood vent fan unit is rated at 17.7KW. 1700W / 120v = 14.17 amps. 17.7KW should be 1.7KW, 1700W.  Brain fart.  . 17.7KW would be one powerful microwave unit.  .
Electrical question
Interesting how no one seems aware that their gear have regulated power supplies. My ARC power amps do not have DC high voltage regulated power supplies.  I suggest you check the archives for posts of @atmasphere how voltage drop affects the p...
Electrical question
The OP’s house was built in 1995. Minimum overhead fed electrical service is 100A @ 240V. That means each of the two legs 120V to neutral loads is good for up to 100A each. 200 amp overhead fed electrical services were common place in 1995 as wel...
Electrical question
Assume the microwave is in the kitchen above a countertop. Kitchen, above countertop branch circuit wiring is 20 amp. #12awg copper wire minimum, 20 amp breaker(s).  Assume, hard to believe, someone, other than an electrician fed a convenience o...
Rogue Cronos Magnum -Reverse Polarity ?
Just a guess there will will be posters that will say they can not hear any differences.  Another problem, how may recording engineers today, for that matter for the last many years, take the time to check absolute polarity of all the microphones...
Upcoming Move - Questions Ethernet Cable, Modem/Router, Ethernet Run & Electrical
@norust said:   I was able to touch base with the electrician first thing this morning and now have him running two dedicated lines vs one.  FWIW, there is a very good chance the "electrician"(s) that install the electrical service, branch cir...
Connecting TV, Integrated Amp and CD/DVD Player
I also have an Oppo BDP-105 that I use to play CDs and want to be able to play DVDs with it.  It’s connected to the amp with HDMI also.  What do I need to do to connect the Oppo to the TV? The Oppo has two HDMI outputs. Did you try connecting t...
Ground loop hum
@kavakat1 , Great! Best regards, Jim
Ground loop hum
@jetter +1 You beat me to the punch, before I posted my above post. If so, insert more insulated interconnects to test. I think you mean shielded. The TT phono cables to the phono preamp should definitely be shielded phono designed cables. Jm...
Ground loop hum
@kavakat1 said: Something to report. I unplug my phonograph power plug and the hum is still there. What’s that mean. Will move phono to line 3 to see. It’s presently on line 2 and cd is on line 3. Too much fun.  Like I said earlier in the thre...
Ground loop hum
just tried grounding phono preamp to rogue preamp’s cabinet. No luck. I assume the TT tone arm is grounded to the phono preamp ground terminal. . So a ground loop hum must be heard no matter which source is playing thru the preamp? Is that c...
Ground loop hum
@jetter said: The only time I had a hum that sounded like a ground loop from my turntable was when I was using a set of interconnects that were not properly insulated for turntable use.  Morrow literature made it clear to use their phono specifi...
