TV Based System - Hifi vs. Studio Monitors
A good measuring speaker is a good measuring speaker regardless of source. If your tv has an eARC enabled HDMI out you can potentially get better sound out of it than toslink. Use what ever speaker you like the look and sound of.
Why "bookshelf" sspeakers?
Lower cost at the expense of dynamics. Monitors/book shelves are not for me. I value big dynamics above all things in audio. Dynamics is what make music sound real.
Thiel 2.4 Speakers & Krell KAV - 300iL
I have a pair of 2.4s. They dip into the 2 ohm range so it is important be stable down low. I don’t think they are too power hungry but they have a rising treble on axis. I found EQing down 2db from 8k up really helped the speaker.    the best so...
Do you adjust your subwoofer
Movie sound tracks have a 4db increase for the LFE channel. So if you are not running a home theater processor adding 4db would be about right.
Wilson Audio Duette / Custom Crossover Upgrade
I think stereophile’s measurements looks the same. The differences are the room vs near field measurements. The increased bass and rolled off treble are just typical room interactions. The scooped out low mid can be seen in both measurements.
Wilson Audio Duette / Custom Crossover Upgrade
Jim2,   thanks for sharing. I watched the YouTube video. I demoed the duette when it came out a longtime ago. Too long to remember the details but I do recall being impressed by the bass.    let us know how the final product turns out.    I am...
Any normal size speakers that sound like Volti
Tough to top good horns imo. Honestly a smaller speaker will take up the same space. You will not use the extra space for anything. I am sure she is taking up far more space with nick nacks and “junk” all over the house. take your wife to demo so...
"Hardly Used / Less than 100 Hours / Took out for pics only"????
Yes I have bought a pair of Klispch RP8000fs in gloss black, they are $2000ish and I got them new for $1100. I wanted to try 7.1 from my 5.1 and also wanted to hear the Klispch speakers. At the time I own sever pairs of speakers that were all well...
Peformance at price point for speakers manufactured in China?
I have never heard them but have always found the Wharfedale Elysian 4 a great looking speaker. Sometimes it is not just where it is made but also name prestige too.
Perlisten D212 Subs (2) in the house.
Ja_kub_sz   Nice looking setups for sure. I have never tried side placement of subs due to just having limited runs of wire. Maybe once I have the CR-1 I will move them around more as longer runs of balanced cables are more common than RCAs.
Nearfield listening - once more
There are two main advantage of near field listening.    #1 less room sound  #2 more dynamic as less SLP is needed for the same listening volume.    I always try to sit as close to my speakers as my setup allows. As you know there are lots of t...
Perlisten D212 Subs (2) in the house.
Ja_kub_sz   thanks for the feed back. We are more or less on the exact same page.   The Sopra does looks awesome and sounds good too. The JBL 4367 is my ugliest speaker ever lol… but I think they will be keepers.    Good to know the CR-1 is si...
Perlisten D212 Subs (2) in the house.
Ja_kub_sz,   Your system looks nice. Sorry to hear about your sub issues. JL’s electronics in their E-subs are pretty much trash. I have had both mine fixed twice so I am effectively on my 5th and 6th sub from them. They fixed them under warrant...
Sound Stage and Imaging
Soundstage is all about room interaction (wall reflections). It is important to have even dispersion as you get off axis so the reflections don’t color the tonal balance of the speaker. For $2000 used you can get a pair of Revel F208. They measur...
Perlisten D212 Subs (2) in the house.
Skinzy, I tend to think subs without a highpass are not worth the time as it never sounds quite right. Wilson audio makes a pretty good sub controller for around $5k that would allow for the integration. Might not be worth it to you though if you ...
