Crossovers
I'm using a DBX Driverack as a crossover between my powered sub and main amp. It can be used three way. You can also EQ your entire system if you purchase an omni-directional mic. The Driverack is about $500 new and the mics start at around $40.
Meridian 507
The 507 sounded detailed but overly bright in my system. I now have the Consonance 2.2, and I'm very happy with it.
Bitstream of PCM on my DVD player
I have both connected. I use bitstream, as mentioned, for movies, to get full 5.1 surround. But I have found that many DVD concert videos sound better in 2 channel using PCM, than Dolby Digital.
Progressive Rock
Being a HUGE Gentle Giant fan, I have often used the Octopus CD, along with Masque by Brand X, and a few others to audition audio equipment. I have always tried to purchase gear that was the most accurate, revealing, transparent, etc. I think if y...
Spectron Musician 3 First Impressions?
I have my III burning in 24/7 with my older "B" system right now. As soon as I hit around 400 hours I will put it into the main system, then I'll get back to you.Sonny
Deqx vs. Behringer or Dbx Digital Crossovers?
Coe, I was originally going to get the Behringer, but bought a DBX Driverack instead. As I mentioned above, some of the speaker builders at the Madisound site gave me the recommendation. I did not get to compare them myself.Sonny
external crossover when bi amping?
Perhaps some further explanation is needed here. If you have a two way speaker with one pair of binding posts and an internal crossover, of course, then I don't see any other way of biamping than to disconnect the tweeter and the woofer from the c...
What would you change?
As mentioned, a dedicated line and some power conditioning should help. A balanced power piece or a sine wave generator, like from Exact Power. Also, I would consider changing all of the wires and power cables, before replacing any equipment. Migh...
Is the SACD Format Flawed?
Check out this article, it tells some of the story. http://www.iar-80.com/page17.htmlThere are a few other similar online reports, I will try to find them as well.I agree that there are some very good SACD recordings, but that's not the question. ...
Review: Spectron Musician III Amplifier
I too am upgrading to a Musician III from an older Musician I. I had to send the old one back for some repairs and they offered me a really good deal to trade up to the III. After reading your review, and a few others, I can't wait for it to arriv...
Deqx vs. Behringer or Dbx Digital Crossovers?
A good question to be sure. I might try asking it at:http://www.madisound.com/The forum there is mostly orientated to speaker questions. I bought the DBX ($500), as it was rated a bit better than the Behringer ($300). There are some Rane units, wh...
Need help choosing IC
I am not familiar with the brands that you named, but I am a fan of LAT International cables. I have them throughout my system now. They are neutral sounding and reasonably priced. I have used a few more expensive brands but so far prefer the LATs...
Help with vertical Bi-Amping
Behringer digital crossovers are very popular these days for bi-amping. One of these units would go between your preamp and power amps. Some of these crossovers have XLR connections, which will work fine if you have balanced equipment. If not you ...
Can I replaced an attached power cord?
If your CD player has a thin lamp cord, a good shielded power cord should be a great improvement. I have switched out the PCs on a couple of inexpensive CD and DVD players and it was noticeably better. A good cord will help block out EMI and RFI i...
Thoughts about these forums
Just thought that I'd like to say that I've been a member here for nearly two years, and that the information that I have learned has been invaluable. Most of my audio purchases, in that time, have been influenced by the helpful advise that I've f...
