With 52dB, the sound will be somewhat castrated.
Upcoming Technics SP-10R (100th Anniversary Model)
As I thought, they're creating a very stiff arm tube. This boron layer over titanium and aluminum boron alloy headshell is where the significant increase in price occurs. Im looking forward to your thoughts.

EPA-100 MKII seems like a very special tonearm. The wand states boron titanium. Does anyone know exactly what Technics means by this?If they're using titanium alloyed with boron, then it could be an extremely stiff tonearm. Possibly even stiffer t...

Speed of sound in beryllium and boron is very similar. But boron could be grown around a rod and made into an extremely thin, incredibly stiff, and light pipe. All beryllium cantilevers that I'm aware of are rods. I've heard both and prefer pipes.

Basically what Technics did here is build the best turntable in the world for $20K retail. I assume a lot of small time manufacturers are scared right about now. Have any any of you seen some of Fremer's YouTube videos? I especially like the one w...

I’m not so sure about beryllium rods being better than boron pipes. Audio Technica took a different approach, ML150 used a beryllium rod and higher end models such as ML170 and ML180 used boron pipes. Very few cartridges used beryllium cantilevers...

Effective mass is similar to Technics, 12g or so. It's medium mass. It will work with any of the mentioned cartridges in this thread.

PLX1000 is a nearly identical copy of Technics SL-1200MKII. I could mount the 2M Blue on it blindfolded.Screws go right into the threaded Ortofon body. With Nagaoka, you’ll have to mess with nuts. For a quick and dirty job, use the provided protra...

United States has some of the lowest duty rates in the world. Consumer electronics is less than 3%. I never got charged for anything under $500, or so. But did get charged for items closer to $1000 and above. For example, there was a fee of $100 o...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
A little update on my tonearm quest:My short list included SME Series III, Technics EPA-100/250/500, Rega RB808...But I ended up getting the SME 309, because of a deal I couldn’t pass up. I’m using it with a Gyro SE and 2M Black. So far, so good. ...
Analog to digital interface
Vinyl will outlast me, you, and those digital files. Why bother?
Da Benz?
@stringreen  It was properly set-up on a VPI Titan turntable by people who have been in analog business their entire lives. This was not the first time I heard a Lyra cartridge sound overly bright. I listen to live music at least once a month. Sma...
Da Benz?
I would look into MM/MI cartridges if you want something that sounds more like original tape. From current production, I recommend:1.) Ortofon 2M Black2.) Audio Technica VM760SLC, VM750SH, VM740ML3.) Nagaoka MP-500, MP-300Not all, but most MC cart...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
@rauliruegas Thanks for your comments. The other tonearm I’m considering trying is the Technics EPA 500 with either the E (6 grams) titanium wand or the H (8 grams).Do you have a sonic preference between EPA 500 and SME III tonearms? Any other ton...
Cartridge recommendations
@chakster I have not tried those two cartridges yet, but I'm working on getting at least one of them to try, possibly the ML170. Great article BTW. I always knew that MM cartridges produced the closest sound to master tapes. However, 2M Black was ...
