I Was Considering Active, Then I Watched This ...
I don't understand why you need a speaker manufacturer to build an active speaker, when you can make a lot of speakers active with an active crossover and your choice of amps.
Are all of these NOS tube inventories real? How have we not consumed them already?
"new old stock in white boxes" you should be wary. Especially if these NOS are not military (JAN) tubes. A box doesnt prove that the tube is NOS, but the lack of an original box usually is very telling. I find this to be true, of all the tubes I h...
Preamp recommendation
There a couple of Don Sachs tube preamps on the used market at just under $2000. They retail new for about $2500. They’re based on the Aikido circuit boards from VTA. You can build the same preamp, as a kit, but in a very plain case, for as little...
Constant noisy tubes maybe go solid state?
You should clean out your tube sockets, it may have some residue in there.
Newbie, need advice.
Most but not all, my amplifier takes 2.5 volts, some take more than that.

barrista0611.   Did you ever compare a transformer output dac to a tube dac, just wondering what the sound difference is?

InvalidWhat is the watt level for operating your preamp? The manual for the arc Ref 6se says it draws. 130 watts. Not sure how accurate this is and whether a lot lower when in bypass mode.a mc mc255 amp draws about 65 watts at moderate levels.I'm n...

If you have to stick with the 12at7 I would order the phono stage graded tubes from vintage tube service, Andy really does test them for microphonics.
Why is black so popular for components?
Seems like tube equipment has more color choices than solid state.

Why in the world are they making such powerful outputs.               Maybe to drive an amplifier directly without the use of a preamp.
I have been a stickler about keeping power cables away from signal cables...on equipment ?
I would think if cable vibrations were a problem then the big heat sinks of solid state amps would be an even bigger problem. Maybe that's why tube gear isn't as bright sounding, just a thought if everything makes a difference.
Do active speakers interest you? Also, let's talk directivity
I like the idea of active speakers with the amplifiers and active crossover not inside the speaker enclosure, it seems like a better idea because you could isolate the vibrations better. A passive crossover can also be used in a line level position.

What's the deal with this live microphone feed, doesn't it still come through speakers or headphones and amplifiers. I think all audio equipment colors the sound.

I don't understand why you can't leave a tube preamp on all the time, I leave mine on all the time, it doesn't seem to need tube replacement very often.

I would give andy at vintage tube service a call and see what he recommends. He has tubes rated for phono stages that might work better in a high gain setup.
