How do you add color?
Color is in the details too not only in tone and timbre. You want it all. Tube preamp is very important, in addition to power amp. As for DACs, why would any audiophile want to listen in digital what was recorded and mastered in analog and then t...
How do you add color?
Only analog source and tube equipment can get things done right. If you are lucky. Don't expect much from the rest, save your funds.
One key to building great systems over time.
#10 is not right, at least to me. Music and sound quality walk together. If it doesn't sound good enough, there is no music, only an idea of music, you have to imagine things instead of experiencing the reality of them.
Warm vs Revealing—the struggle for balance
I think, you are headed in the wrong direction. You don't really want to find warmth/detail balance, you want to find the sound that is as close to the reality as possible. Then you fine tune, including with tubes.  I agree with tomcy6,  get the ...

Hmm. How about Sussan Deyhim? Try Madman Of God album. Modern Persian. She left Iran for the US a long time ago. I like a lot both Lhasa de Sela and Azam Ali. Amalia Rodrigues, classical Portuguese fado, excellent too. Never heard of La Chica.
Need some help picking my first MC Cartridge
Would Lyra Delos work well in that arm with that phono stage ? It's $2k, though.
You’re An Independent Dealer, Which Companies And What Products Would You Represent?
By the way, I will never come to Hi Fi store without serious considerations to buy. If I am comparing those five turntables, there is a high probability that I will get one of those.
You’re An Independent Dealer, Which Companies And What Products Would You Represent?
realgoodsound, what else is obvious to you? Dealer's cash flow is not my problem, I mentioned some brands that would be of interest to me. There are many others, of course. Including Conrad -Johnson. If I ever need Rega or Rotel I'll just get it ...
I saw the back of an integrated and it depressed me.
Soon enough there will be brain implants available that will completely change things. Say warm welcome to 21st century. Can you imagine what awaits in 22nd century?
I saw the back of an integrated and it depressed me.
Most people who will buy it won't need those two RCA inputs. Now, why do I think that I cannot possibly be interested in Technics, including their turntables ? Belt drive will always be better, you just need to know how to design and build one.
Integrated Question
I would experiment further with different tubes, interconnects and power cord for the amp. There can be dramatic differences. ghdprentice, what you said about SS sounding more accurate is fundamentally incorrect as a general statement.  I don't ...
It's almost like poll, but certainly more fun
Well, you didn't say your Rolex fell apart. They don't. They break sometimes like everything else but they don't fall apart. czarivey, what about gold? Definitely better than dollars, or any other currency for that matter.
Intg Amps: Hegel 590 vs NAD M33 Masters vs Gryphon Diablo 120
Gryphon and Accuphase will last for decades. They almost never break. Listen to some people here - get one of those depending on your taste and forget about the rest. I would definitely add Boulder 866 to the list. Those three know how to do solid...
Looking for a Warmer Sounding Phono Cartridge
Since you don't have to buy another cartridge you could now replace your phono stage with a tube one. Besides, you will be using vintage cartridge, and vintage means tube electronics.
