Marantz SR7005 OR Pioneer ELite SC-35
I haven't heard a class D amp I didn't like, albeit I've only listened to two, bel canto evo-6 and ref 1000 mkii. I have a Marantz SR 7200 purchased in 2002 which was recommended by a sound engineer as an excellent preamp for the price with ok amp...
Budget Strategies forTightening up Bass?
My AV system is set up in a large irregularly shaped open living room. I found that walking around room with music playing helped me find the bass nulls and peaks. Changing my listening distance from speakers significantly affects bass response. M...

New Gallo 3.5's
Horizontally arranged drivers have terrible off axis phase response. I also have the Gallo ref 3.0s and AV ref. The AV ref sounds fine on axis, but one step to the right or left and vocals drop out.
analog to digital
I've been using an imic ($40) for digitizing vinyl for three years. I originally bought it as an experiment. The experiment continues to impress me with such a high performance to price ratio. The imic connects my bang&olufsen 4002 turntable, s...
best amp to drive Gallo 3.1's?
I've owned the Ref 3's for several years and have powered them with a Marantz SR 7200, bel canto eVo 6, and recently, bel canto Ref 1000 mk IIs. The Ref 1000 mk IIs improved the stereo imaging and grabs the bass by the gonads with an iron grip. I...
New Bel Canto Gear at RMAF
I recently replaced my bel canto eVo 6 with three Ref 1000 mk IIs because one of the Tripath boards failed. I gambled on class D technology when I bought the eVo 6 because I believed it was a step in the right direction. Even though the eVo 6 forc...
How can I transfer my records to cd? Best quality
I have stumbled upon an enjoyable and inexpensive method for digitizing vinyl. I use a $40 iMic, free Final Vinyl software, and Airfoil for monitoring. I have digitized scores of LPs and look forward to scores more.
CD Cases / Furniture Recommendations?

Do you "treat" your speakers rubber surrounds?
After moving to California and its associated dry climate, I have found many dry-rotted surrounds. My Sunfire subwoofer manual recommends using mink oil on the surrounds. I treated all my woofers with the mink oil and it seems to work well so far.
Amp for some new Gallos
I'm driving my ref 3s with a bel canto evo 6 and I like the match very much. Even at low sound levels, the combo is detailed and quite musical. By brother who is impossible to impress praised the sound of my system on his recent visit. I'm in the ...
"Mini" to Optical for Airport Express
Thanks for the honest answer Steve. The noise does happen when playing from a large playlist. Lately, we've been using the party shuffle mode of iTunes and the problem happen in that mode as well. It seems to happen more with large music files as ...
"Mini" to Optical for Airport Express
Thanks Steve once again for being so generous with knowledge. I'm very interested in the Pace-Car as my wife and I are mostly enjoying music at home using iTunes. We have an iMac G-5 streaming to an AE, to the Toslink input of my Marantz prepro. A...
Acoustic doors?
Thank you Philbrady . This is exactly the kind of information I am seeking. I appreciate what a great resource Audiogon has become for me. I have learned a lot from this thread and now I can see how mass, stiffness, and air seals all work together...

Albertporter, Thanks for the advice. I have a contractor that I have been working with and I will talk to him about purchasing and installing the door. It will pobably be few months before the job will be started. Hopefully I'll remember to post ...
