What format are most people using, and why?
I have been using Aiff files for all the music I've imported from my CDs, vinyl, and even cassttes. Compared to how much most of us spend on our rigs and even ICs, using up more HD space for higher resolution music seems relatively inexpensive. Th...
Is iPod Digital Output Possible?
When John Atkinson of Stereophile tested the iPod's DAC he found it tested quite well. Psiberaudio offers passive/active preamp docking stations that raises the iPod signal output to a standard 2V. Psiberaudio's website may give you some ideas and...
External hard drive for expanding iTunes library?
Thank you Herman and Bruce for your replies but I'm curious as to how loud these hard drives' fans are?
Best Budget Silver/Silver-Blend Interconnects?
DH Labs BL-1 with Eichmann Bullets are what I use and like very much. It costs 3.25/ft. for the BL-1 and $40 for a set of Bullets.
reluctant about home theater
Imo you can't beat 2.0 or 2.1 for music and movies. I did the 6.1 thing and my wife and I use 2.1 for all movies and most music and Direct TV. Once again I learned the hard way.
Gruv Glide. How many use it?
I have been impressed so far with the Last record preservative. It reallys seems to prevent the formation of pops and reduces surface noise. I also like Last's stylus cleaner and sylus preservative. Styli need cleaning after each LP IMO.
Help with vinyl frustration?
You may have damaged vinyl. I have some LPs which have poor sounding tracks that I suspect were damaged in the past by poorly set up turn tables.
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
After noticing some high end CD players have separate displays and power supplies so as to prevent the LED's negative affect on power supplies and sound, I started turning off my LED displays. The improvements in soundstage and depth is instantly ...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
I haven't owned a car since 1990 and with all the money and time I've saved I have more music, sound, and bicylcles than 99% of USA. My bikes are JP Morgens, a Litespeed, and a Miyata.
Ever discover good sound right under your nose?
Not exactly under my nose, but Salvia Divinorum is said to greatly enhance the auditory senses.
turntable location??
I have had best turntable playback performance with wall mouted shelves. Floors are usually springy and mass loading racks is an inefficient solution. Check out the Grand Prix wall shelf.
New Vinyl Defects
Vinyl is somewhat unpredictable. I have bought brand new vinyl with lots of loud pops that never went away and have found and bought records that looked like they had survived countless late night Ultimate games at Chico State that sounded surpris...
Hum in preamp when using HT bypass
Chris Hoff of BPT thankfully hipped me to the video isolation transformer from Parts Express (part #180-075) and it eliminated the ground loop from my HT/stereo system. It was $10. You may need one for each of coaxial cables, ie. antenna, satellit...
Best I pod docking bases
Hey Bbroussard, what's crappy about the iPod's DAC?
Best I pod docking bases
Check out Psiberaudio's iTube and active/passive preamps. It may be overkill for most kids but I would've loved such a system when I was a kid.
