Schiit taking orders (as of Dec 23) on Freya preamp
"Does the Freya sound over bright, etc."aberyclark - assuming that was directed at me...No, the Freya does not sound over bright to me. Bright/harsh is something I have worked to eliminate from the system, especially given the Totem Forests in use...
Schiit taking orders (as of Dec 23) on Freya preamp
@lak I don’t listen in tube mode very much and have actually pulled the tubes...not out of any unhappiness with the tube sound or noise level - though the as-supplied, stock 6SN7s WERE noisy! Schiit did very quickly replace a couple for me when I ...
Schiit taking orders (as of Dec 23) on Freya preamp
I've had a Freya for approx. 9 months now.  I remain very pleased with it.  I especially appreciate the balanced design.  I believe that is (at least) one advantage over Saga.  Freya's ability to accept balanced input made a big difference in the ...
Digital coax cable, real world experiences?
I've recently done auditioning of a few digital coax as well as USB cables.  I heard differences in detail, soundstage (width & depth), music image precision, and bass.  Ended up with a Black Cat Silverstar 75! coax from USB/SPDIF converter to...
Name three of yours the most favourite drummers
@geoffkait I absolutely should have known better.  Truth is, I was going to call you on it!  Suggest you were being ironic - not in earnest.  Never saw the movie so hadn't a clue.  The sincerity of tone was out of character for you (having read so...
Name three of yours the most favourite drummers
@geoffkait I enjoyed reading your opinions on Phil Collins and Genesis even though I probably take the exact opposite view of his/their discography. Prefer the prog rock stuff and enjoyed most of their output through And Then There Were Three. Wit...

@inna Never miss an opportunity for a putdown.
Looking to completely overhaul my preamp section, knowledgeable people needed!
FWIW - I replaced a 6H30/EZ80 tube preamp with a Schiit Freya. Aries Mini (fed from ALAC-ripped CD files or Tidal) through Gungnir Multibit has become my primary listening source. I’m very happy with the Freya/Gungnir combination going into a Tara...

Interesting bit of history from the MJT Project website..."...the MJT Project builds upon over fifty years of tradition utilizing the euphonium and tuba as lead instruments in jazz. This tradition started in the late 1940s with "the birth of the c...

Since finding and subsequently greatly enjoying Daniel Herskedal’s "Slow Eastbound Train" which was greeted by some here with overwhelming enthusiasm, I thought to find what others might be doing "jazz-wise" with the tuba.Encountered, the Modern J...
Full MQA music list.
@jond jon - Things seem to have improved here too. Still some very occasional buffering but very short-lived. Nothing like before. Hardly any longer than the break between tracks on a recording. Improvement noted in about the same time frame as wh...

@cleeds Thanks for that tip, Cleeds.  It got me looking at some non-trumpet/trumpet-looking instruments.  I'm wondering if instead it might be a flugelhorn.

Anyone know the kind of horn Hugh Masakela is holding?  Very clearly seen at 6:25 and 8:22.  A variant on trumpet?  Thanks in advance.  (Please pardon the interruption.)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLdWKWu7HKw

PREAMP technology shift? - Class A/ balanced/ dual-mono/ zero feedback vs. op-amp preamps
Hello again Paul - @paulburnett Own a Freya myself and might have a similar set up.  Phono pre for vinyl is singled ended; digital (DAC & CDP) is balanced - so there are singled ended and balanced inputs to the Freya.  The Taranis power amp is...
