Continuum Caliburn - really the best TT on earth?
Just a thought, the only other table that Michael Fremer feels is in the same league as the Continuum is the Rockport Sirius III. I mention this because he has almost singlehandedly created the market for this table. But for his favorable comments...
Direct Drive turntables
All,I currently use a highly modified Rockport Sirius I TT with a 50# stainless steel platter and constrained layer damping driven by an external motor, oversized power supply, aramid fiber belt. The motor uses a flywheel, the platter a vaccuum dr...
Interconnect for sweet, silky violin sound
Strongly suggest that you audition the Jorma Prime interconnects.
Einstein Turntable's Choice vs EAR 834P + MC4
Raul has, for me, an interesting perspective on music and sound reproduction. After having been a hobbyist for many years and modifying his own equipment, he became a manufacturer. This has allowed him to hear his product (preamp/phonostage) in ma...
Einstein Turntable's Choice vs EAR 834P + MC4
Unfortunately, even well designed components benefit from some after market tweaking, particularly with respect to power cords and isolation. I think that part of the problem is that each system is different, particularly in terms of how polluted ...
Einstein Turntable's Choice vs EAR 834P + MC4
Interesting, a friend who borrowed my Einstein and did the same comparison bought an Einstein. The Einstein benefits from being fully broken in and from left on continuously. Likewise the choice of power cord is extremely important. The one suppli...
The best speaker you ever heard?
Past experience leads me to question whether you can separate the performance of the amplifier driving the speaker from the speaker. Case in point, the substitution of the balanced Audio Note Kegons for a pair of Parasound JC-1's has led me to re-...
Heaver grade vinyl vs Standard
I am firmly convinced that the reason for heavier vinyl is primarily economic. Buyers are willing to pay a higher price for the same software if it is distributed over additional discs. Although I cannot speak knowledgeably about the cost per viny...
Our home system: How good it is?
I might add from personal experience that the path does not always lead forward. In some instances it may lead backward and then be corrected. Likewise, each new piece of equipment is not always better or worse, sometimes it is merely different. I...
Our home system: How good it is?
First, thanks for the nice comments about the Triolons; however, even more thanks for the candid comments/criticism which you offered at my home. Too often visitors are fast to praise but reluctant to offer honest criticism. Perhaps part of that i...
Goldmund Reference and the like
I owned one of the original References initially with a T3b and later updated to a T3f and compared it in my system to the Rockport Sirius which I still own. Enough said.
Halcyonics under my tt. Wow
I am using a Micro 40 in a Finite Elemente Pagode Master Reference stand underneathe an Esoteric X-01D2 with stunning results and can only mirror Norm's comments.
Ayre MR-X monoblocks - how good are they??
Semi:Point taken, I think that what I really should have said is musically enjoyable. Again, the associated amp and cabling can make quite a difference in the final sound.I am using the single ended Einstein and understand that the balanced versio...
Ayre MR-X monoblocks - how good are they??
Sorry to take this thread somewhat off course but I did briefly want to address two comments: 1)"the Isis is not known to be musical." I am not really sure what exactly that means or whether it is intended to be negative in nature; however, based ...
The best speaker you ever heard?
Sir Speedy, Would you say that Sid's system is "tuned" or "tweaked" for particular types of vinyl? I only ask because I have found that I have inadvertently tuned my system for older RCA Shady Dogs and English Decca's. Other formats sound good but...
