Is Anyone Using Subwoofers the Same Size as Their Mids?
I use 6.5" drivers in my mains and they do put out a decent amount of bass, but I’ve also integrated with real subwoofer and the result was amazing. The easy, correct way to go from here is to go as big as you can with the sub BUT use appropriate...
Should I Update My Krell KAV 250a ?
Usually I find that when I start thinking about tinkering with the internals of a piece of gear I end up doing the mods, and then selling it anyway. 🤣 So I guess my advice is to go ahead and sell it as-is and find something else.
Query on power cable with IEC C13 and US 2-prong
This is interesting.  I have a Luxman integrated which, per US regulations should have been grounded, but is not.  I wonder if it's some common Japanese equipment thing?
can subwoofers make things worse?
The tools you need are DSP EQ and measurements.  Additionally, high pass filters and plugging ports in the main speakers, along with bass traps can also highly improve the integration and benefits of a sub, but the EQ and measurements alone are th...
Integrateds: Luxman vs. Ayre?
I don’t find Ayre necessarily neutral. It has it’s own ... almost noise cancelling ... signature. It’s hard to explain it. Maybe the imaging is superior and lets you hear more into the recording as if it ignores the room? I can’t really describe ...
Fios Terminal replacement.
I think you’ll have the same no matter what you get. Modern streamers have a lot of buffering. What I am more worried about is whether you have copper coming from outside to inside of your home. If you do I suggest a LAN isolator like this one to...
Harman kardon a300 rebuild
I would do a middle of the road approach. If you keep adding uF to power supply filter caps you’ll increase the surge currents and stress the rest of the power supply on turn on. Assuming you are reading this correctly, and the cap was specified ...
clipping
OP: That’s not clipping! Clipping is a type of distortion heard when an amplifier reaches the maximum voltage swing it is capable of. It’s called clipping because the normally sinusoidal like signals do a hard stop at the maximum voltage, lookin...
can subwoofers make things worse?
It's not the quality of a sub that will really degrade the sound, it's the position, extension and whether or not you can clip excess peaks.
clipping
This is what I mean by not sure you are describing the issue.  Does the sound cut out... or do you hear the sound get really nasty?
clipping
How are you measuring 80 ?? Is that the setting on the amp or a measurement of the audio level at yoru seat?
Good measuring DACs vs.
Do you buy a painting based on the purity of the oils used??
It's attention, not money, we should budget
30% room might be good if you have a dedicated listening room, but I think it's a bit much for a room that serves a multitude of purposes....    Maybe.  What if you keep the stereo in mind when selecting your home furnishings, and rugs, and ma...
Good measuring DACs vs.
As far as I know, below a certain level of distortion and frequency response flatness, there’s very little correlation between better measurements and better listener preferences. Just like with amps. Below around 0.1% distortion, the specs that ...
Using PA Speakers In A Home "Audiophile" Application!
I don't know about these particular speakers, but in the inexpensive but very good, with pro like features have you seen the Hsu satellites?
