I say a Mcintosh MC275. That is what I ran with my martin logan sl3's, and it sounded very nice.

The bottom. 1) you need space for it to vent the heat, and 2), it is super heavy.

What I don't understand is why don't more mid-level to high-end speakers just design their speakers with a subwoofer built in. This, it seems, should eliminate (or at least greatly reduce) the coherency problem?

OMG Peter, that is a beautiful room. Is that really your garage? Are those speakers Tidal Audio?

Thanks to everybody for these responses. There is a lot to think about. I guess the only reasonable option would be to sample some sub's and see how they work. However, I don't know if a dealer would let me try something out on such a basis.
