Pandora again, and now Spotify too...
I very much agree - Pandora makes the BEST radio stations!  for me it started with the LMS around the turn of the century!  I still have a Pandora subscription and use the S10 (have 2) from Acrylic.  They are on secondary systems- a Yamaha PA to e...
Balanced vs. Non-balanced
I agree with most of what has been said.  most important- verify that the Luxman is truly balanced.  and if yes, then try your ears to pick which source.  the low level of phono signals (from the cartridge) is irrelevant because the preamp makes i...
After 15 years, the Squeezebox Touch Remains Undefeated!
squeezebox and pandora- still the best at creating custom radio stations.  Spotify mixes, ehh, not really close second. Tidal, Amazon, and Qobuz.  That's how I rank them for the "no commercial, just turn on the radio experience."  oh yeah, that Lo...
Adcom Amp Owners Rejoice!
in the mid 1990's I bought several Adcom amps on eBay for "distributed whole house system".   a system in every room.  One of those 535 has been powered on in either my garage or basement for over 25 years!  Also owned the 5400, 545ii, still runni...
new Parasound A21+ vs my old Rotel RB-1080
I believe that @soix is correct and he is saving me time, money and frustration from chasing the unattainable with cables and components. if I must hear realistic ride cymbals, I need to sit in my car.  If I want live sound, go crank up the PA sys...
new Parasound A21+ vs my old Rotel RB-1080
@sls883 yes, they are more directional than I expected and I need to adjust toe in if I am able to spend time in the chair.  otherwise, I need to point them straighter for the sound stage.  A review of these speakers should include "never bright o...
new Parasound A21+ vs my old Rotel RB-1080
@soix just don't give enough of that... more than an educated guess.  me explaining to a drummer what a live kit sounds like.  yes sticks on sticks and rim shots too.  many Marshall Tucker recordings have that steady ride.  Just heard one outside ...
new Parasound A21+ vs my old Rotel RB-1080
midway down the home page for parasound.  not sure if we can post URLs.  look for   "Silver Parasound Model Pricing Update"  posted Mar 12, 2025
new Parasound A21+ vs my old Rotel RB-1080
@soix I may be looking for something the speakers don't have?  when reading about electrostatics, I expected that speed to come out as a crisper sound.  I listen to mostly live- Dead, jam bands, blues and new grass.  in the live experience.  drums...
Favorite mid-tier streamer
+1 Eversolo. their bottom model even has balanced pre-out (I know you said don't need a DAC, but take it in context- how many devices consider balance below $3000).  I had always been a "why shouldn't a dedicated windows laptop with PS Audio USB d...
What Power Amplifier Should I Buy?
IMO 15" HSU sub is for home theater. Your Revel have two 8" per enclousre(consider large for most tower designs today) mid/woofers. Two easy experiments. Listen to some music on just the HSU. next, defeat the EQ and let the Revel run full range w...
Warm, yet detailed tube preamp
You didn't mention budget but you could upgrade to a Rogue RP5 v2 for less than half  the $$ of these other options.  I spoke to Rogue regarding an upgrade path from my integrated Cronus Magnus III.  They said that the RP1 would be an upgrade.  I ...
question about Balanced signals.
@atmasphere  sorry was trying to sum it up without going into details (because that is where we tend to make our technical mistakes).  In this last post, I should not have said "cable" .  As you clearly are aware, it is the whole design that contr...
question about Balanced signals.
@atmasphere Thank you for the xlr cable suggestion.  I too like to save money and even if on short runs, an unbalanced cable is able to sound "clean", that cable is likely to be much more expensive to get similar performance to the balanced path. ...
question about Balanced signals.
@rauliruegas thank you for locating that info.  agreed, everything I have read about Balanced says you gain about 6dB of gain over unbalanced, not lose.  this helps explain why we were confused when trying the PSA Dac Jr as a preamp.  it was too w...
