Tube Rolling on BAT Preamplifiers
My thought is that the amount of time that a tube performs "optimally" before audibly degrading is the practical measure of its lifespan & should be considered when judging its value. In the VK75SE at least, a fresh 6H30pi(EB) sounds better th...
BAT 75 SE vs. CAT JL2 or JL2 Sig.
Since you have a Modwright modded CDP, perhaps you're open to modifying a BAT75SE. After living six years with a stock 75SE, I was seriously considering changing to a top OTL. Instead I was able to improve & cement the 75SE in my system for th...
Anybody familiar with Mundorf silver&oil caps
pjl2122, I see the new Mundorf SOG is quite bumped up in price & is now pretty close to V-Cap TFTF. Can you elaborate on your opinion of SOG relative to other Mundorf & other caps you might have compared it to?
Attn Vinyl lovers - what CD Player do you use?
Modded Sony SCD-1. Extensive rework of this CDP has kept RBCD within one pubic hair of vinyl spun at 45 RPM on the delta of venus.
VPI HW 19 - replacing springs with pucks or cones
In my TNT I replaced sorbethane in the stock elephant feet with hard maple pucks machined on a lathe. Alternatively you could cut up a wood dowel.
Vibrapods under Bright Star for VPI Scout
To get better decoupling than vibrapods, use six large springs under the sandbox. McMaster-Carr P/N 96485K125. This will improve both focus and smoothness relative to the sandbox alone.
Have anyone replace VPI SSM belt with string?
Having recently added Mark Kelly's speed controller, I've been experimenting with Stren braided fish line as an alternative to carpet thread on my TNT with flywheel. Braided fish line offers the theoretical advantage of very low elasticity. I chos...
What does Jitter sound like?
Shadorne, I suggest speaking with Kyle at Reference Audio Mods 951-780-2869 about a Superclock for one of your devices. The SC4 retails for $300 and there are probably cheaper used or old-stock SC3s. I have no experience with budget players, but r...
What does Jitter sound like?
Amen Mrtennis. My listening tests relating to the perception of jitter were gathered through four generations of clock upgrades within one CDP-- eliminating all other variables (except for cognitive dissonance), and disposing of all controversies r...
What does Jitter sound like?
Like some deleterious affects in audio, it may be easier to appreciate & to describe in its absence. Sometimes you don't know what you got till its gone. But dancing angels it most definitely is not.
What does Jitter sound like?
The reason I mention comparison between speed fluctuations in TT & digital jitter in CDP is because I experience these phenomena quite differently. As the speed stability of my TT has improved through various upgrades, I hear improved dimensio...
What does Jitter sound like?
Audioengr,From either a theoretical or experiential perspective, do you think the phomenenon of speed instability in a turntable is similar to digital jitter?
What does Jitter sound like?
Shadorne, Feb. Stereophile is one of the better issues in recent memory, with entertaining assaults by Atkinson & Fremer on the "MP3 as indistinguishable from CD" fiction propagated in the mainstream press. At the opposite extreme there are (f...
What does Jitter sound like?
The SCD-1 is different from some CDPs, insofar as a Synchronous Time Accuracy Controller (S-TACT) chip that is located next to DAC in the analog section of the player, isolates master-clock generation and signal voltage-pulse generation in one chi...
What does Jitter sound like?
Dpac996, these are my personal observations going from stock oscillator in my SCD-1, through three generations of Audiocom Superclock up to SC4. In each modification, only the clock (or the clock power supply) were changed. I installed each clock ...
