Desktop Monster as compact as possible
I will look into those options. I have never heard them before, maybe I can find a shop that has them. Thanks. Anyone else have recos...keep them coming please;
Back to basics
1. VPI HW19 series. Provides value wayyyyyy beyond its price tag. Excellent turntables. Will smoke out just about anything in its used price range. 2.Technics 1200 if you are willing to do a little mod work.
Spin Clean seems to add noise to records?
I have heard of one person using it and getting a static build up after wiping it post using the spin clean. It cant generate static when wet, but your dry routine may be inducing static on the record. Just my 2 cents. Hope you find a solution.
Phono/Preamp Discussion: The Missing Link
Well, Ohnofiasco I disagree. I am not trying to start up a pissing contest but a good SUT does not have to cost anywhere near 4K. There are many new production and vintage models to chose from that are stellar. I can see how that option is a turno...
Phono/Preamp Discussion: The Missing Link
Thanks for the replies. I have to say I was hoping some designers would weigh in on the main question:Is it worth paying mega bucks for the + 20ish db gain provided by an uber high end MC phono/pres everyone is listing in the best MC Phono/preamp ...
Phono/Preamp Discussion: The Missing Link
Jperry, yes it was, think it was a 15 not sure.
Phono/Preamp Discussion: The Missing Link
Czarivey -> I am referring to the uber models everyone knows about that often do NOT have a built in SUT. Those are the ones that opt for the "Ingenuity" route. Pbnaudio -> Gruvy award winner, from Fremer, no prices on the site however. I kn...
Why not magnetic tapes in stead of vinyl records?
Onhwy61, Yes this technique is very popular in the recording community. They go from digital to 2 channel stereo tape and then back to digital to get the tape "saturation" effect. I think it is getting the worse of tape, and degradation since you ...
Why not magnetic tapes in stead of vinyl records?
Well here is one idea as to why: Stamping thousands of records take a lot less time and is cheaper than creating duplicates on to kilometers of expensive tape. I think it has little do to with the sonic attributes, or anything else other than cost...
Phono rig capacitance
Emailed both Jensen and Cinemag, no word yet. Thanks for the info Lewm !
Opinions on bang for the buck on TT & tonearm
Third the VPI/pick a price point method. Love the VPIs.If you have no ego and some DIY skills perahps look at a technics 1200 or SP10. But that option is really for tweakers only IMO.
New VPI 3D Arm
What is the material they are printing this out of, I am curious about the resonant properties of the printed assembly and wand in comparison to their traditional configuration.
On the hunt for best phono cable under $1k
Here is one idea that is much cheaper than the other options discussed but MUCH more difficult to implement.Hard wired low RCL cable: 1 uninterrupted run of cardas litz straight from the cartridge into your SUT with shield attached only as it come...
Phono rig capacitance
Looks like so long as L4 is at least 100mh things look normal. The pairwise inductance have been chosen to give a 1:10 ratio i.e/ as per the source it is the sqrt of the inductance ratio. (L4,L5)->(1uH, 100uH) ; (10uH, 1mH) ; (100uh, 10mh) ; ( ...
Phono rig capacitance
AL, thanks for pointing that out!!!!You are right I must have not typed in uh or mh and it defaulted to full henries, and I completely missed this. I will have to look at this later when I get a chance. But now that, that is a thing I might as wel...
