going from tube preamp to solid state
I have several preamps, but the one I’m using now is made by Dodd Audio and is battery operated. I’m using Tungsgram 6922 tubes. It’s dead quite with 16db of gain, and I have it mated with a First Watt SIT-3. If you can find one used it would make...
"Audiophile" Power Cables: The Greatest Audio Conspiracy Theory of All Time?
I would like to believe that power cords don’t make a difference, but I have ears and I still can hear. Acid in the Oatmeal… 🤔
Did the Old Receivers Sound Good?
In Junior High School (70’s) I bought a Pioneer SX 535 with lawn money, and after awhile I came to the conclusion it was terrible. My next purchase as an audio salesman was a Kenwood KA-5500 integrated. It was a sweet sounding amplifier, that I wi...
Took the lithium ion battery plunge
Interesting thread. I recently purchased a Battery powered Dodd Audio preamp from a friend. Its addition to my system is a revelation. Getting Audiophiles off the grid might get them some sleep at night, since most of the guys I know listen from a...
Speakers that are good with tubes
+1 for Klipsch
HELP!!!! Newbie looking for a decent 2 channel power amp in the $1,000 range
I recently saw a Job 225 for right at $1000.00 Goldman designed if I remember correctly
Preamp with two volume controls?
Coincident Statement Line stage has 2 volume controls without remote.
Active Crossover Conundrum!
@ditusa - thanks for the article. My idea is using the SIT-3 from 0-500, a 45 amp from 500 to 7000 and my heavily modified Bottlehead 2a3 from 7000+.
Active Crossover Conundrum!
@kota1- Thank you for your response, If I go down this route, some computer software, measurement tools will be a must. @russ69- I assume you could use a 2 way by using a passive XO between midrange and tweeter and have the ability to tweak the B...

What are/were the best sounding cheap components you have ever had?
The NuForce STA-200 was a nice inexpensive amp that audio advisor sold for around $500.00.
Power cords or power conditioner
When I was getting back into Audio a few years ago, I purchased a $100 Silnote power cord for a NuForce STA-200. The change was HUGE! My deaf mother and father could have probably heard the difference. Pass Labs and First Watt includes a very sub...
Looking for Speaker Recommendations
@wast314 - Why no Klipsch? Have you heard Cornwall lV’s?
Recommendation for low to normal level listening a 13.5' x 21' x 8' room
I 3rd the horn recommendation, also @glennewdick expresses a lot of good options. Also remember the Cornwall 4’s are a different animal compared to their predecessors. I use a First Watt Sit 3 that is also popular among Cube Audio fans.
